Sept. 29 Harvest and Downsizing

This assortment is what our little garden is still producing!  A few small tomatoes left yet too.

We have been busy canning applesauce.  Love our thick lumpy applesauce!  36 pints are done and now we have to do apple crisp for the freezer and dehydrated apples.  The honey is what I buy from a man around the corner from us.  Yum!

"Wonderful Gardener" is removing this area along the fence to make his life easier!  He is tired of pulling weeds!

"Wonderful Gardener" and Mike moved this barrel over near the deck from that area being removed.  It has spearmint and lemon balm in it.

Plants and a few small bushes were removed from around the fountain area and grass planted.  We are leaving a little circle for flowers around the fountain and I will have to redo the flowers next spring so that it will be prettier.  This has been the life at Cozy Thyme Cottage lately besides doctor appointments.  "Wonderful Gardener" says we wouldn't have a social life if it wasn't for our doctor appointments!!!!

Looking great! We are pretty much done with summer squash for the season so I was glad to see someone else still getting some!

Hi Kathryn, Thanks on the patchwork quilt. I wonder if I will ever get it completely finished! I am glad that our garden didn't do too bad this year. The way it started out I didn't think it was doing as well as last year but ended up with quite a bit. Nancy

Hi Stoney Acres, Glad I am still getting some squash and a few raspberries to harvest as everything else is about done. Nancy

That is a wonderful harvest on your table for this late in the season. Those raspberries are lovely! And hurray for local honey - I purchased some this summer too & it is so yummy!

I've been busy making applesauce too. I'm buying apples every week at the farmers market, so every week I make more. I'll keep doing that until they don't have macs anymore. And you remind me that I ought to buy some more honey.

Your garden produced more than ours too! Homemade applesauce is the best! Can I just say.... I love your dirt....! *sigh* Wish our dirt looked all nice and dark like yours. Look forward to seeing all the changes when things start growing next season. Sounds lovely.

Hi Nancy! My what nice jars of sauce! So nice to see squash! I think of casserole when I see them! Quite a few changes being made to your garden; grass being removed; grass seed planted! It will be nice for you in the future! Change is always for the better when it comes to gardening! Have a great week! Blessings from Bama!

Still a real nice harvest Nancy. That applesauce looks so good. I have never made it and can't ever remember my Mom making it either. I think we canned only what we grew.
Good that you are breaking ground for next year. I plan to harvest my pumpkins tomorrow ... all three of them.

Hi Margaret, Thanks! So far I am using honey in my smoothies, granola and wholewheat bread. Was wondering if you had a good cookie recipe or banana muffin recipe using honey that you have tried? Nancy

Hi Daphne, We went to a local shop that gets in bins of apples every year from Michigan and you can fill your own baskets with any kind you want and mix and match. Not organic but with peeling them the best I can do on our budget! Lots of work peeling, huh! Nancy

Hi Lisa, That is free compost that we get from a local site. It is suppose to be tested safe to use on our gardens. Nancy

Hi Felecia, Thanks. We probably would not be making all these changes if we were young and healthy! LOL I should still be able to garden some next year and not so much weeding for my hubby. Nancy

I've actually never used honey in either cookies or muffins - I do have a go-to banana muffin recipe, but it calls for brown sugar. Now that I have this big stash of local honey, I need to find more recipes to use it in too.

How wonderful to still be having fresh veggies from your garden! Your soil looks good so I'm sure you'll have pretty flowers after planting next spring.

Hi lil red hen, We have clay soil but go get the free compost from the site. Our clay soil is so hard when it is dry! Nancy

Progress in the Courtyard!

It was so nice to look out my bedroom window this morning and see the Clematis blooming instead of a pile of snow.  It is a rainy day agai...
