A Little more from the Garden!

I am harvesting a zucchini now and then!  Hoping I get enough to freeze some.

Yummy  green beans!  Need to plant some more!

The biggest harvest of raspberries is over now until fall.  Will be picking just a very few each day now.

Dug up a cabbage.  We sure have been enjoying fresh cole slaw!

Another zucchini and my first yellow squash!

More beans, zucchini and I dug up some potatoes that I have been enjoying.

Sue dug up my beets.  My  sweet neighbor made pickled beets for me!  She gave me 7 pints and she kept 3.  What a blessing!!  I knew I would not have the energy to can them as I have extreme fatigue. I have been diagnosed with Lyme, Mycoplasma and Bartonella.  If any of you ladies have Lyme or have had it could you let me know.

This is the Monarda by the pergola.  I have seen two or three hummingbirds on it but not as many as I would like!  The neighbor across the street has quite a few hummingbird feeders.  They would probably prefer to go there!

I never tire of looking out at the flowers.  This is a view that I took.

This is a little different view that Sue took with her camera!  Thanks for visiting!

There's just nothing like fresh produce straight from the garden! How kind of your neighbour to pickle your beets. I bet they'll be so tasty. I have never tried doing them myself but what I do is keep the jar from sweet mixed pickles ( store bought) and then I cook some fresh beets and put them in that brine. After a week they are ready to enjoy.

I hope they can fix you up and it isn't a chronic form. Your harvests look great. I too am waiting for a zucchini glut so I can freeze some. It doesn't always come though.

Hi Granny Marigold, I don't like canning beets so think that was especially nice of my neighbor to do it. Not sure I would have volunteered for that job! Always happy to have them on my shelf though. Nancy

Lovely harvests - and that cabbage looks perfect! I've always thought of them as difficult to grow, but I know I'll give them a try at some point.

I'm so sorry to hear that you aren't feeling well - I hope that you get your energy back soon. It's so nice that you have such wonderful neighbors, especially during the more difficult times.

Hi Nancy ... good harvest. Nothing better than fresh homegrown from your garden. I love pickled beets, but never have done any myself. A neighbor gave me some red plumbs this year and I made jam and it is really good.
Hope your health issues improve.

Hi Margaret, I think the secret to growing nice cabbage is to put something over them to keep the cabbage butterflies out. We have a cover for ours. It is nice to dig one out and have fresh cole slaw! Nancy

Your garden harvests and flowers are looking good! I hope you start to feel better soon. My son and husband have both had Lyme disease.

Hi Vicki, Thanks! Glad you could visit! I have only been on my meds for six days and no improvement. How long did it take for your husband son to start feeling better? Nancy

My brother has Lyme's. He's 40, got it when around 12 while staying with my grandparents in WI and helping with the haying (tick infected him). I don't remember much about his treatment other than once home he did have a nurse that visited a few times to administer something intravenously and that he was doing some vomiting. Did you get the bullseye patterned rash so you knew pretty quickly what was going on? I'm sorry for you, I know that it can make you feel pretty lousy. To this day my brother experiences joint pain, problems with his teeth, and a little of the Bell's palsy that was all a result of the disease. I imagine that they've made advances in treating it so you should hope to avoid long-lasting effects.

Hi Becky, I am sorry your brother still has problems with Lyme. I never saw a bulls eye and they say lots of people don't. My Igenex blood test showed I have had it a year or less but that I have had two co-infections Mycoplasma and bartonella a year or more. I have been on meds for a week and they have warned me there is no quick fix. I have extreme fatigue and itches for my worst symptoms. I did have nausea for awhile but that cleared up on its own. Thanks for commenting. Take care. Nancy

curious as to where you might have gotten Lyme disease. I read that you traveled for 2 and a half years and my husband and I are thinking of selling and traveling before relocating. Would like to know for prevention reasons. Thanks in advance. Love your blog.

I am so very sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I was recently diagnosed with Lyme disease by a doc in the ER, even though I had not noticed a tick bite, nor had the traditional bulls-eye rash. He did not administer the blood test. I had a burning, searing lineal rash(es)on the backside of my upper left arm. I thought I had the beginning of shingles, and that's why I went to the ER, to get on the shingles meds asap. It upset me so much about the Lyme diagnosis, my internist worked me in later that day to say, no I did not have Lyme and yes, I did have shingles. She put me on shingles meds that made me feel sooooooo very bad. But my arm did not look like an ordinary shingles rash, and it bubbled up into the largest blisters I'd ever seen. Anyway, a very long story short..... turns out I had neither. I had phytophotodermatitis from trimming back my fig tree and dill weed a few days before. Both those plants..... if they touch your skin or their juice gets on you, coupled with the UV rays of the sun, produces a chemical reaction as if acid had been spilled on your skin. I'd worn protective clothing, gloves, etc. that day.... but it was so hot I'd taken off my long sleeve shirt that I wear over my short sleeve shirt, and even though I'd come in to wash off my arms every 30 minutes, I'd missed one spot on the back side of my upper left arm. I sincerely hope you feel better soon. You have too much going on, and too many loving people around you to enjoy!

Progress in the Courtyard!

It was so nice to look out my bedroom window this morning and see the Clematis blooming instead of a pile of snow.  It is a rainy day agai...
