Oct. 6th 2019 Happenings

Feeding my gluten free sourdough.  About once a month I get it out of the refrigerator and feed it with gluten free flour and water and make muffins and pancakes.  Then I put it back in the refrigerator till the next time.  A box of six gluten free donuts can cost $5 so this helps out with the cost of eating gluten free.

The Lord is still blessing us with a few strawberries and raspberries!  When there are too many to eat I slice and freeze them and then put in a bag.  They can be eaten frozen for a snack, put in smoothies or on cereal.

My poor lettuce got beaten down in a hard rainstorm!  That is not a snake in the corner but the cord to my camera!

Sungold tomatoes still producing on the front porch.  We had some days in the 80's but in the 60's now so probably won't be ripening for much longer.  I guess fall has arrived!

Isn't this the most beautiful rose!  It was just a little different color pink and has opened up even larger than in this picture.  I had a tooth extracted but hubby got this a day or two before just because he is glad we can grow old together.  I second that!

I have a small raspberry patch but put a couple in five gallon pots to try.  I also planted strawberry plants around it that I started from runners.  Don't know if they will live through the winter but thought I would try.  Next spring I want to get a blackberry or black raspberry plant to try in a pot.  Gardeners are always planning for next year!  Thanks for visiting and enjoy your week!  Nancy

Glad to see you are still getting bits and bites from the garden. I have a few green tomatoes left and that is it.
Hope you are feeling better and healing. Good to see you post.

Hi Cheryl Kimbley, Even though my courtyard garden is small I am thankful for everything I get from it. Will you bring your green tomatoes in to ripen? Thank you much for commenting. Nancy

Isn't it ridiculous how expensive it is to buy gluten free breads, cakes, etc. Two of our grandchildren have Celiac's disease and are gluten free. I always try to get them some extra special goodies when they visit but my goodness it really costs a lot. Our other granddaughter is allergic to dairy. All will be here for Thanksgiving this year so it will be interesting cooking won't it? It will be so good to have them all here together.
I'm so glad you're still getting some garden produce. Everything here has frozen. It's so early for that to happen. Apparently we've been breaking records for snowfall in September and cold temperatures nearly every day.
The rose is so sweet. You definitely have a wonderful husband who loves you. Mine is just like that too.
Blessings,
Betsy

Lovely to see your post Nancy. It still sounds very warm temps in your part of the world - we are still wintery/spring here - lots of rain & wind still. I hope you have mended well from your tooth extraction. I am not in blogland much as I have been travelling to help my Mum - she fell & broke her hip so its going to be a long road to recovery. I will still blog when I can. Happy new week to you Nancy xx

How sweet of your husband to get you that lovely rose just because he's glad you can grow old together. Increasingly we are aware of couples who are not so fortunate!
Isn't it funny that we're always thinking of next year's garden!! I'm trying to get some strawberry runners rooted in a large pot. I hope it works. My DIL had berries ripening until a month ago ( those are the plants that I took the runners from).

Hi Betsy, Yes we do have great husbands! I am sorry you are already getting cold weather. It will be here soon. I am not ready for it! Nancy

Hi Granny Marigold, I hope your strawberries make it through the winter for you. Yes, it seems the older we get, the more we appreciate our mates and realize how lucky we are. Nancy

Hi Nancy :) It's so nice that you still have some strawberries! Your rose is so beautiful!

Hi Rain, Yes, I am excited to be still picking raspberries and strawberries! My rose really opened up but it is still so beautiful. Sure a different rose! Nancy

You may only be getting small amounts from your garden, but they sure look good! We've been so dry the last part of summer that not much is doing well anymore in my garden.

Cozy Thyme Cottage said...

Hi Leigh, Thanks. It is hard to be realistic in planning how much I can plant! Nancy

I am always amazed at the raspberries and strawberries you grow and pick. I've never picked a homegrown raspberry or strawberry in my life, and I have planted both. :( Maybe I need to try growing them in pots. That is a beautiful rose and given to you for such a sweet reason. Henny

Your husband is a sweetheart. I am glad that you can grow old together, too, and that he still brings you roses :)
God bless you both :)

Hi Henny Penny, Turning cooler here so my berry picking will be ending but we have sure enjoyed them. I dried the rose as I do with almost all the roses I receive but they lose color. Any ideas on how to preserve them so they are still bright? Nancy

Hi Connie, Yes, he sure is a sweetheart and has helped me so much these last few months. So thankful. Nancy

WOW! That is awesome Nancy that you are still getting such beautiful delicious fruit. We had a shower here but that is it and in need of rain badly. I planted some collards and my annual Fall sunflowers and having to water them daily or every other day. Your little garden girl is looking mighty fine to me. Hugs and blessings to you. Cindy

Hi Creations By Cindy, I am so glad you could visit. I am just getting a sprinkling of strawberries and raspberries. Our weather is turning into colder fall weather but we have enjoyed them so much. I hope your collards and sunflowers do well. I have never had collards that I know of! Nancy

Progress in the Courtyard!

It was so nice to look out my bedroom window this morning and see the Clematis blooming instead of a pile of snow.  It is a rainy day agai...
