Beet Harvest, Canned Beets, Peas, Honey, Towel

I harvested these beets from my 4x4 square foot bed.  I plan to go on vacation to celebrate our 52nd anniversary so am posting my harvest today.

I canned six pints of pickled beets.  They were messy and a lot of work!  Do I want to do this next year????  I do love pickled beets tho!

More peas!!!  I will definitely be growing those next year!  They have been so good, and we have enjoyed eating fresh peas.

We buy local honey from a couple around the corner a bit from us.  I use it in my granola and my one cookie recipe.

I like to hang towels from my kitchen cupboard doors.  A penpal friend made this one for me.  I think maybe I was suppose to take it down after Christmas but I love it so decided to leave it up all year.  Everyone have a wonderful gardening week-end!

First, Congratulations on 52 years of marriage!!!

Canning pickled beets is a bit of a chore. But, they are so so good! I didn't plant any spring beets this year. I better remember to plant them for the fall!

Have a wonderful time!

Thanks Robin. Those 52 years have sure gone by fast! I hope you get some beets to grow. By next year I will probably have forgotten how much work canning pickled beets is and do it again! lol Glad you could visit. Nancy

Pickled beets are worth the mess. I only wish my husband liked them... it's hard to use up a canner load of them with only myself eating them.

Congratulations on 52 years! Very inspiring.

Happy Anniversary to you both. Congratualtions. I love the way you have a pretty tea towel on your cabinet door. I have so many old beautiful ones and that is a perfect way to display it so I can enjoy it. Thanks for the idea. Your beet harvest is impressive! Good for you!

Hi KitsapFG, Thanks! We are blessed to have 52 years together. My husband doesn't like pickled beets either. More for me! lol I made six pints plus part of a quart in the refrigerator. I will probably have them all gone by next spring! Nancy

Your harvest looks delicious! I also like the towel hanging from the cabinet like that.

Congratulations on your 52 wedding anniversary. What a milestone and an example to your children and grandchildren.

I can a lot of pickled beets for my family. Personally I don't care for pickled anything, but I do it for them.

Your towel is so cute. Have a wonderful weekend with your hubby.

Hi Jenny, Thanks for the Anniversary wishes! Do you just roast your beets in olive oil in the oven and then put them in your salads or how do you do it? Nancy

Hi Cheryl, Thanks for the Anniversary wishes! My husband does not like pickled beets either so I don't have to can that many but I enjoy them. Glad you enjoyed the picture of the towel. Come again! Nancy

Enjoy celebrating your anniversary! Beets are so good and yours look great; can't wait til we get some to harvest! I agree too that fresh peas are wonderful. A whole new taste treat for us as it's the first year I've grown them.

Hi nutmeg gardener, Thanks for coming to visit! Hope you enjoy your first year of peas! So much to learn about growing! There is a big herb farm in Conn, Caprilands, that we visited. Have you been there? Hope you will come again. Nancy

I could imagine pickling beets is a very messy ordeal, but I bet they are yummy! My spring beets have not been happy. I think fall is the best time for me to grow them.

Have a wonderful anniversary trip!

Hi Julie, Yep, the beets were very messy but the fact I was not feeling well didn't help probably! Hope you can grow some this fall! Thanks for the Anniversary wishes. Glad you could visit! Nancy

It was so nice to look out my bedroom window this morning and see the Clematis blooming instead of a pile of snow.  It is a rainy day agai...
