New Dehydrator, Preserving, End of Summer!

My old dehydrator bit the dust!  I have had it for years and it had no fan.  I bought this one with a fan and really like it!  It would have been nice to have an Excalibur brand but for the two of us and our age and what I dehydrate this one works great!!  This one is also more in my budget!!

We finished canning our lumpy applesauce!  We canned six pints and have a few left from last year so that should do us I hope.

Middle of October and slim picking!

Winter coat and ear muffs!!!  I tried to not let this happen!!  Didn't make it!

Pulled these few carrots out of the cold frame.

I am trying the "Garden of Eden" method on this section of the garden next year so have the wood chip mulch put on.

This Kale got eaten by some bugs but now it is thriving once again!

Huge Swiss Chard!  Can I use it in any way?

Greens growing in my cold frame!  Hoping for some winter salad making!

Some spearmint and some chives to dry.  The spearmint does not look very green and healthy.  Why do I wait till the last minute to do things!!

Carrots harvested from another bed.  That is the end of the carrots for me.  My garden is almost ready for the winter.  I will be out with my ear muffs and winter coat again tomorrow trying to finish up!

Great harvest Nancy! Berries in late October too, that's wonderful! You have two things I covet, that dehydrater and the cold frame! The lettuce in the coldframe looks fantastic!

Thanks nutmeg gardener! Picked one more strawberry today. It did have just a little bad spot which we will cut out. I hope you can get a dehydrater soon. I really enjoy mine! Thanks for visiting! Nancy

Can't believe you are harvesting strawberries in October.... and they made it to the kitchen without being devoured en route!!! All looks yummy, as usual. You've got a good bit of pretty greens growing in your cold frame. We're thinking we need a dehydrator here.

Hi Lisa, Thanks! We are sure going to miss picking fruit from our yard this winter! I think you would enjoy a dehydrator! Thanks for visiting! Nancy

So good that you are still harvesting from your garden. The carrots look good. I have lots of chive plants to dig up that will just be trashed. Did not even think about drying them. Just too many and I do not use chives very often. Thanks for sharing your garden.

Hi Audrey, I cut the chives up fine and lay on parchment paper on cookie tray to dry stirring once in awhile or shaking. When dry I put in a jar and add to egg salad sandwiches, tuna salad sandwiches, scrambled eggs and whatever. You should try some since you have so many as they are so easy! Thanks for visiting!! Goodness, you are still churning out the veggies! Lumpy or not, that looks like some great apple sauce!

Hi Polka Dot Closet, I am afraid this is it for this season. Picked one strawberry today and everything is put to bed for the winter except the greens. Will try to keep those going for my salads. We make the applesauce lumpy on purpose because that is the way we like it! More work though! Thanks for visiting! Nancy

Hi Nancy! I think you'll love the Nesco! It is holding up very nicely for me. Your harvests are fantastic! Oh how I hope to garden again next year! It looks really cold there! Wow! We're just now turning on the heat at night! Supposed to get colder here by the weekend! You are such an inspiration because you don't let the weather or bugs or other obstacles get you down! Thanks for sharing! Have a great week! Blessings from Bama!

Hi lynn, Thanks! I just hope when I go on vacation that my lettuces don't freeze as there will be no one to put the cover down!! Thanks for visiting! Nancy

Hi Felecia, I already love my Nesco and I haven't even used it that much yet! It has turned cold here so now I have become an armchair gardener for awhile! LOL Thanks for visiting! Nancy

We have had weirdly beautiful weather until now. It is finally starting to get a little cold. But it has been in the 60s and sunny most of the days. But 50s are good too. No ear muffs here.

Hi Daphne, Maybe it will warm up here again but glad to have the oudoor work done! I don't like to be cold! Thanks for commenting! Nancy

Progress in the Courtyard!

It was so nice to look out my bedroom window this morning and see the Clematis blooming instead of a pile of snow.  It is a rainy day agai...
