Sandwich filling, Cockscomb, Anemone and Quilt


I used my Mom's old meat grinder and ground up some leftover steak of some kind.  Then I mixed mayo and mustard, chives I had dried from the garden, dilly carrot that I had canned, cut up freezer dills from either my garden or a friends that I had frozen, celery and radish.  Added seasonings.  It makes a healthy delicious sandwich filling!!  Much healthier too than the lunch meat you can buy.


I planted some of those cockscomb seeds that grow tall and are so pretty!  They seem to be doing well.  I have thinned some but will have to thin more.  Thinning is sometimes painful!


I walked past this beautiful Pandora Double Blue Anemone and it was screaming at me to buy it!  Couldn't resist!  I have never had an Anemone plant before!


Scrap quilt finished!!!!  The only thing I bought for it was the DMC floss to tie it with.  Used a sheet I had and material I had.  It is a single bed size.  I think in the old days they didn't go out and buy all their material to match to make their quilts but used whatever they had.

We generally avoid lunch meats too, although I love a good dry prosciutto (and it has no nasty ingredients either - only pork & salt). And such a beautiful quilt...I think it is all the more special because it was made from scraps!

I love salad type sandwiches: egg salad,tuna salad, ham salad,etc. Now I need to try your steak "salad". :)

Your quilt turned out so nice. Do you use bias tape around the edges?

Hi Margaret, I try to buy lunch meats very seldom. They are quick but not good for us. Thanks on the quilt. I like the way it turned out. Nancy

Hi Vicki, Thanks. No. I made my own binding out of material I had. We have egg salad and tuna salad sandwiches and grilled cheese. Our mainstays. Then if we have a little left over roast or steak we grind it and have that for a salad type sandwich. Nancy

I love salad type sandwiches too, but for me it is usually egg salad.

Hi Nancy! How sustainable of you to use what you have on hand! In the sandwich filling and the quilt! The quilt is so pretty! I would probably learn to do that if we had to endure all that snow! I'm having to watch for snakes in the hen house now, when I go gather eggs! I've never seen one this early in the year! Ugh! Thanks for sharing! Blessings from Bama!

Thinning is oh-so-painful to me too! Never seem to thin enough, then things grow too crowded and I wonder if it'd been better to have been harder on myself! Your lunchmeat sounds delicious, the anemone is beautiful and your scrap quilt is absolutely lovely!
