Bit of Everything

The weather has been bitter cold and I don't think I will be able to do any gardening soon!

I did order and receive seeds and Trifecta fertilizer from MIgardener.  From MI of course and in the area we use to live!  I am trying a couple new things and would like to grow lots of greens for our salads.

My huge carrot harvest!  LOL  My carrots did not do well at all this year.  These were left in the raised bed with the protective cover but the top of the dirt was frozen so decided I would just pull them out.  Better luck next year!

We had a wonderful Christmas!  All our kids were home and also our grandson and his new wife from China.  It is a rare occasion when everyone can come at once!

Coco enjoys her treats from her stocking every year.  She gets a WHOLE carrot and a couple treats.  As you know she loves her veggies and remembers the stocking as soon as I bring it out.

I did finally finish the flannel lap quilt.  It took me forever!

And this is the material on the back of the quilt.

And I got some more garden books from the library to read.  Even though I have lots of my own I can't resist them when we visit there.

I baked this gluten free apple crisp from the freezer that I made last fall and it is delicious!

So many fun things to do!  I need a housekeeper!  I hope you enjoyed your visit!  Please leave a comment so I will know you have been here and it will brighten my day being cooped up in the house!  No walks with Coco in this weather!!

Nancy, I love the family photo!!
The lap quilt is so pretty; I like the colours you chose.
I'm reading gardening magazines these days and dreaming of Spring and what I'll plant. Who knows what perennials will have made it through the winter this year!!!

Hi Granny Marigold, Thank you! I am wondering too what perennials will make it through this bitter winter and also with it being our first winter here after plating things. Maybe the gardening boos and magazines will help to keep us warm! Nancy

Hello Nancy - gorgeous family photo. How wonderful that you were all together for Christmas. Gosh that is some snowfall! Your quilt looks amazing, you have done well to finish it off. Happy New Year to you Nancy ... hope you get some warmer temps soon.

I love the Christmas picture and everyone in matching jammies. Too cute!
It sure has been cold -spring will be here eventually. I guess we shouldn't wish our lives away. Hopefully this cold will kill all the pesky garden bugs!!!

Your doggie is so cute. Love that he loves his veggies!
The lap quilt is gorgeous. Good job.

Have a great week.

I like the family picture too! Glad you could have them all home for a good Christmas. I think it must be freezing all over the world right now. It sure feels like it! What a perfect time to finish a flannel quilt. It is very pretty. That's what I would love to make.

Hi Julie, Thank you! Every year our daughter buys PJ's for everyone so that a yearly picture can be taken of all the ones there. It is a little warmer today but not warm enough yet! Nancy

Hi Cheryl, Thanks! Your right we don't want to wish our lives away but it seems like I am cold so much of the time this time of season. I sure do feel sorry for the homeless. Nancy

Hi Henny Penny, Thank you! I chose an easy pattern of just squares for the flannel lap quilt. Let me know if you make one. Nancy

Hi Nancy :) I LOVE the photo of the family...all the matching pj's! How cute!!! :) Coco looks so happy :) Our furry kids got lots of treats too. I'm so glad you had a great holiday. Gardening season will be here before we know it! I have to get my seeds in order and plan my "window" seedlings soon! :) PS: my winter garden? ugh. I'll blog about that eventually but it just did NOT work!! When they say "cold" frames, I don't think they mean the cold we get here lol!

Hi Rain, Thanks! It has been to cold and snowy for me to even venture out to look in the protective frame and I haven't planted anything in my new cold frame yet. We have had unusually cold weather and it probably got what was in there. I need to find a neat way to keep my seeds once I open and use part of them. Any ideas? Nancy

I have to find an idea too. Right now they are in little ziplock bags in boxes!! But thanks for the idea, I'm going to find some way to better organize mine too!

Hello Nancy,
It looks as though you had a lovely Christmas with all of your family. How wonderful to have them all together. We’re in Nebraska with our daughter and her family, as well as my mother-in-law and all of our siblings. We are having a lovely time. It looks as though you have lots to keep you busy with your yarn and quilt pieces.
You asked about the scarf I knitted. It is all in one piece with the border and then the body and border again. I just made it up and can’t remember the exact stitch count, but I think it was cast on of 32 stitches with a 4 stitch garter border on each side. I hope that helps.
Blessings,
Betsy

I love that photo with everyone in their jammies!! It is so cold everywhere right now - well, in the east anyhow. I think most people are already looking forward to spring even though winter has barely started.

Good picks on the books! I met Tara Nolan last year (Raised Bed Revolution) and she is just as awesome as her book (which I'm sure you will enjoy).

Wishing you and your family a very happy new year, Nancy!

Hi Rain, So far the only thing I have come up with is keep the unopened alphabetically in one box and the opened ones alphabetically in another box. I was just told seeds should not be kept in plastic bags because of the moisture. Ooops. Guess I had better move mine over to paper envelopes! Nancy

Hi Creations by Cindy, Thanks! Our daughter makes sure we get a yearly picture all in PJ,s! Nancy

Hi Betsy, I hope you have a wonderful time with your family also! So much fun all being together, isn't it! Thank you kindly for telling me how you made the scarf. It looks so warm and pretty! Stay well and have a safe trip home! Nancy

Hi Margaret, Aren't you the lucky one to have met Tara Nolan. I received the book "Container Gardening Complete" by Jessica Walliser. I think it will be a good one for me. We have had a few days of warmer weather but now Sunday is suppose to be 16 degrees. Brrrr Nancy

I don't envy your cold and snow! Of course, we have enough of our own, but it's a good time for indoor projects. I love your lap quilt. Such pretty fabrics. I know it's warm!

Hi Leigh, Thank you! I am ready to be done with winter and the sooner the better! Nancy

Hi Nancy,

Happy New Year! What a busy season it has been. How wonderful for you to have your whole family together for Christmas. I have seen on the news how cold it has been everywhere and am grateful we live in a more moderated climate, even if it does rain a lot. Hopefully you will get an early spring so you can get back out to your garden before you know it.

Cozy Thyme Cottage said...

Hi Gloriade, Having our family all together this year was a special time as it doesn't happen very often. Hoping we will have an early spring! Nancy

Hi Nancy, I'm happy to see that you are using these cold winter days to start a new quilt . . . I know it will be wonderful. I'm using these two Give-A-Way weeks to rest from most of my blogging time and to sew and crochet. That book Home Grown Pantry looks intriguing, I must look for it at our library. Cute little bench on the side of that garden bed, too.
Have a lovely week and good luck on the drawing; I will be posting the winner next Saturday.
Connie :)

Hi Connie, I always love hearing from you! Sick now. More respiratory than flu at this point. Nightie day so I am sewing on a little craft when feeling up to it. I found a blog on your comments I love with lots of ideas to add to my list! LOL Enjoy your break! Nancy

The jammies on the fam are so cute!
I'm so glad you had such a nice Christmas!
Your quilt looks extra cozy.
How nice that your cute pup loves carrots!

Cozy Thyme Cottage said...

Hi Pom Pom, Thank you! The jammies is our daughter's idea each year. It was a special Christmas. I don't know if it is nice that Coco likes veggies as if I don't have them high enough in the garden she likes to eat most of them! Nancy

Hi, I'm just visiting from Rachel Piso's blog. Just saw your comment and wanted to see your blog. I see that crochet thread, and I think I just bought some like it tonight. What do you make with it? I crocheted many years ago, a few things, but am just getting the old hook out again and am curious about the things people are making nowdays. Thanks! Hugs, H in Healdsburg

Hi Helen L, Thank you for visiting and leaving a comment. I hope you will come again! The yarn is the same as the smaller cotton balls of yarn that you can buy. I didn't keep the label but it is Sugar and Cream or Peaches and Cream. I just knit dish cloths and crochet those fold over pot holders so far. I am not an expert at either but enjoy doing them. I hope this helps with your question. Nancy

Progress in the Courtyard!

It was so nice to look out my bedroom window this morning and see the Clematis blooming instead of a pile of snow.  It is a rainy day agai...
