Carrot, Cole Slaw, Muffins, Trees & Book

This is the story of my Peach Tree Limb Tree!  Three years ago I ordered a dwarf peach tree.  We planted it, and it died!  That is not the end of the story.  A limb grew out from the bottom just above the root stock, and grew and grew.  Today it is my Peach Tree Limb Tree!  One year we had a few peaches.  This year I only saw one little peach!  It has had that peach tree leaf blight where the leaf becomes red and blistery the past couple of years so I will really have to work on that.  Not sure if that will help produce more peaches or not.  It makes a nice looking fake tree for our yard anyway!!!!!

We planted this Chojuro Pear Tree last year.

The Hosui Pear Tree.  We planted the two pear trees near each other for pollination.

We love sweet cherries so planted this Compac Stella Sweet Cherry.  It said it did not need a pollinator so I am hoping!  The beetles really ate some of the leaves but have stopped for now.

This Ornamental Chandler Pear was planted back in 2009.  It has pretty white flowers in the spring.  Probably not good for my allergys!

Pulled another carrot to add to the cole slaw.  The tops are quite large but sure wish the carrots would grow more!

Cole Slaw waiting for dressing to be made.  The cabbage was from my garden previously and added the above carrot.

Muffins made today!

Another book from the library.  Do you think it might help me become a more             organized cook??  Or better yet, a wonderful cook like Annie?  lol

I don't think I've ever grown a large carrot. I get too anxious to pick them and they take so long in my garden. Plus if I leave things in the ground too long, voles go after them. Yours looks great and your coleslaw looks delicious! So do those muffins!

Hi nutmeg gardener, My carrot boxes are not large enough to produce enough carrots I guess! Need to find room for more next year. Coco likes them and so do we! Glad you could visit! Nancy

That coleslaw looks quite yummy! I think all of us aspire to be as good a cook as Annie's Granny. :D

Good luck with your trees. Carrots do seem to take forever to get big. I don't think I've ever grown a really big carrot.

I'm with kitsap, we would all love to be a great cook like Granny! Right now I'm making a batch of her wonderful vanilla ice cream....with some Heath Bars added :)

Hey, I'll bet every one of you could outcook me!

The carrot looks fine to me, and I'll bet the cole slaw was delicious. It always tastes better when you grow it yourself.

Hugs,
Carol (aka Annie's Granny)

Thanks kitsapFG! I will have to practice on my cooking! This heat puts a damper on gardening these days! Come again. Nancy

Hi Annie, Me thinks you are too modest! I thought my carrots should be big like the grocery stores! Thanks for the encouragement and for visiting! Come again. Nancy

I love to see what others are growing and cooking! The cookbook that you pictured looks like one I should try to find in my library!

Hi Gina, I didn't find a lot I want to try from that book but do want to try the Rice Pilaf recipe. I like making or freezing things ahead. Hope you can find the book. Thanks for taking the time to visit. Come again! Nancy

Your pear trees remind me of a couple of trees one of my grannys had in her backyard. Us kids loved to climb it (that probably wasn't best for the tree :)) and eat the pears. Your cabbage made into beautiful cole slaw. Those carrots may not be 'big', but the smaller carrots are more tender and have the better flavor.

Hi Lisa, I guess I am not a very knowledgable tree grower! Not too much success yet! You know, I think you are right about the smaller carrots having a better flavor now that you mention it. Now I don't have to feel bad about not growing the larger ones! Thanks for visiting! Nancy

Progress in the Courtyard!

It was so nice to look out my bedroom window this morning and see the Clematis blooming instead of a pile of snow.  It is a rainy day agai...
