Order Warmer Weather

I bought lots of  plants today so looks like I have my work cut out for me!  Still more plants on my list to buy!   I also ordered warmer weather but I am afraid they put it on back order!!  Not a happy camper with this cold, windy weather.

I wonder if Coco approves of my new plants!  She hasn't taste tested them yet!

I don't have a large enough courtyard to grow Hollyhocks but if this one is as pretty as the picture it will be worth the space!!   I walked by these plants but couldn't resist so went back!  Here goes!

I planted a couple of yard long beans in these egg shells yesterday.  They were two or three year old seeds but I am hoping!  You never know till you try!

I guess this radish needed to grow a little larger!  I am still enjoying the pea shoots so much that I planted more peas today in the zucchini pot.   I just put them around the edge of the pot so think I will eat them before the zucchini needs the room.  Gotta make every inch count in my mini garden!

Drying our few coffee grounds and saving egg shells to put in the bottom of the holes when I plant my two tomato plants.  Also read these are good for other plants.

What is this mess?!!!  I am drying the coffee grounds on a brown paper bag.  You may find all kinds of odd things in my house as it is gardening season!  This is the last picture for today.  I would love to have you visit and leave a comment!   Would you order warmer weather too?

Still nothing blooming at our house and since it got down to 28° over the weekend I don't think it's a good idea to try to plant anything. Although my rhubarb is doing well. Saturday night I harvested two big brown grocery bags full and took them to church yesterday morning to give away. It was all gone in 10 minutes! Rhubarb is pretty popular this time a year. :-) I'm hoping to have more by the end of the week to give away and make a pie for us. Have a lovely day my friend and enjoy your gardening.
Blessings, Betsy

Oh my!! I would love to have warmer weather. The weather network keeps telling us its on the way but so far we're quite below normal temps.

I love Hollyhocks and you've chosen a gorgeous one. I just know when I go to buy my perennials a pot or two will jump into my cart as I walk by.

Yes, it's pretty today but windy! I have two hollyhocks coming up. They seem hardy. The bees love them!
Yay for garden-y doings! I'm sure yours will be lovely, lovely, lovely!

It is extremely windy and gray here today. We had rain for 3 days and there is a lake in the back yard. No gardening here - for a bit yet.
I am with you - I think warm weather got sent back for a while!
Plants all look pretty.
Have a good day.

Hi Betsy, Bob does not like rhubarb but I am sure that if I made a rhubarb pie with strawberries that he would eat it! Haha I do not grow it. Glad you could visit! Nancy

Hi Granny Marigold, Thanks for your comment! I sure hope that my hollyhock does well. An old fashioned flower and I love them. Hope you have some jump in your cart too!! Nancy

Hi Pom Pom, Thanks for commenting again. I hope my hollyhock lives. Do they bloom one year and not the next? Have a good week! Nancy

Hi Cheryl, Thanks! I guess we are all super anxious for nice weather this year! Hope your water dries up soon. Nancy

I've planted yard long beans for the last two summers, but not this year. I didn't find any of the seeds. I didn't know you could start seeds in egg shells. That is so neat!

Cozy Thyme Cottage said...

Hi Henny Penny, I had read that you could start seeds in egg shells but this is the first time I have tried it! The seeds were left over from two or three years ago from some a friend had saved and given me. I have not seen them in the stores. I do hope they grow! Nancy

Send some of that leftover warm weather this way, will you? lol I love that you are ready to plant. We are at least a month away from that here. You must be in lower MI?
Love the way Coco is checking out the plants. xo Diana

Ii NanaDiana, No I think I am rushing the season a wee bit but we can grow cold weather crops now. I am in Northwest Indiana now. We use to live in Michigan. I am in Zone 5. What zone are you in? Nancy

We definitely need to put an order in for warmer weather! Too darn cold here. I can go a little crazy too at garden centre's! So many beautiful things!
Have a great week.

Hi Cat Lover, I would rather go plant shopping than clothes shopping. I know it is only the first part of May but still I am wishing for better weather! Guess we both have to be patient! Nancy

Hi Nancy :))

I ordered warmer weather too, but mine is completely out of stock. All I can do is wait...and baby my seedlings by the window! :) Your dog Coco is very cute!

I'm keeping my eggshells too, and every week or so, I dry my coffee grounds in a 250 F oven for about an hour. We have a feral cat problem in this area, and I read that if you sprinkle this around the garden, they'll turn their nose at it...we'll see! For your tomato plants, do you put both the eggshells and coffee grounds in the holes? I also read that baking soda is good for that, makes the tomatoes very sweet...I'm going to try that this year!

We had frost this morning . . . brrrrrrrrrrrrrr it's May 2. i also save egg shells, coffee grounds and all vegetable and fruit peels. They make a garden grow and the earth worms love them. As a gardener you know that we want those little crawling worms to be happy in our gardens :)
Have a lovely week.
Connie :)

We have some cold nights coming up, so no tender annuals for me just yet. Something is eating all the flowers off my pansies, which is making me nuts!! No sign of the peas popping up just yet, hopefully soon as we've had a lot of rain. Hope your weather warms up soon, Nancy! I look forward to seeing what you do with your new courtyard garden!

I would order 'cooler' weather. I'm down here in s.e. FL and it is already starting to feel like summer. Thunder is rumbling to the n.e. so we might get some rain, which we do need.

It looks like you have some pretty plants to plant. Hope you get warmer weather soon.

I HATE this weather! And we've had it for a week now. Looks like the next time we see the sun should be Sunday if the weathermen are correct. I started gardening but then had to stop because of the weather. I've heard of those yard long beans. Sounds like a fun thing to try!

Hi Rain, I have put egg shells and epson salt in the tomato holes before but just recently read about the egg shells and coffee grounds so am going to try that this year is it ever warms up!! Why do you bake your coffee grounds instead of just air drying them? Nancy

Cozy Thyme Cottage said...

Hi Connie, Nice to see your comment! I use to have a compost pile and I put all kinds of things on it but here I don't have one so just concentrating on the egg shells and coffee grounds. Maybe eventually I can get a small compost bin and find room somewhere for it! Hoping for nicer weather for both of us! Have a great day. Nancy

Hi Debbie from Mountain Mama, I hope you can find out what is eating your pansies soon! Always something to figure out for a gardener! Probably not warmer weather for a few days yet. I am impatient! Nancy

Cozy Thyme Cottage said...

Hi FlowerLady Lorraine, Maybe we could exchange just a little of each others weather and then we could both be happy!! I am impatiently waiting until it is nice enough to plant my new flowers! Nancy

Cozy Thyme Cottage said...

Hi Bee Lady, Oh, I do hope my yard long bean seeds will grow! If I can find them in the store I will buy some more seed. They are so unique. Sorry you had to quit gardening because of the weather but guess it will be a few days yet for us too! Nancy

Hi Nancy! To answer your question, I don't know why I bake the coffee grounds! lol...I read it somewhere I guess! Likely it dries them up faster?

Cozy Thyme Cottage said...

Thank you for taking the time to answer my question! Happy Gardening to you! Nancy

Goodness Nancy, You are going to be busy for a while. We have been home for a week now from our three month trip. It's a little late but I found a couple of dahlia bulbs that I hope to get into the ground this weekend. Also found two flats of red geraniums to plant under the flag pole and in pots on the front steps. Our weather has been cool and wet but the sun came out today, possible thunderstorms this afternoon but hopefully I can get into the yard very soon. Happy planting. :)

Cozy Thyme Cottage said...

Hi Gloriade, Welcome home! I hope you were able to get some gardening done! We are still getting a lot of rain. I was looking for plants in the stores in my raincoat today! Only a gardener would do that! Nancy

Margaret said...

Warmer weather and less rain please! It was so lovely only a few weeks ago and now it's just miserable, overcast and rainy. Hopefully summer comes soon for both of us!

Cozy Thyme Cottage said...

Hi Margaret, Yes, yes, yes! This rain and chilly weather is getting to me. We will really appreciate the nicer weather when it comes. Hopefully soon for both of us! Nancy

Hi Nancy, lovely post - I do hope you got your warmer weather that you ordered. It sure has turned cold here & we have fires each night now. I absolutely adore Hollyhocks - they are one of my all time favourite plants. A friend told me the coffee grounds help to keep the slugs & bugs off your vegie plants in the vegie garden also. Have a super weekend Nancy. Thanks for your visit over to mine. Julie xx

Cozy Thyme Cottage said...

Hi Julie, Thank you! I hope you enjoyed it. So far we have not gotten warmer weather but at least the sun shone for awhile today! I need to develop more patience I guess! Enjoy your week-end! Nancy

Leigh said...

Sounds like you are well on the way to making every inch count!

Cozy Thyme Cottage said...

Hi Leigh, I am trying! It is a challenge to garden since we have moved and I have just a small courtyard with not a lot of sun but hopefully things will grow well. Loving eating the pea shoots! Nancy

Progress in the Courtyard!

It was so nice to look out my bedroom window this morning and see the Clematis blooming instead of a pile of snow.  It is a rainy day agai...
