November 28, 2017

We celebrated my birthday and Thanksgiving!  Thankful that some of our grandchildren live near us!  Now looking forward to Christmas!

We had help putting up our tree.  Since then we have gotten the rest of the decorations up and the Thanksgiving decorations down.  Bring on Christmas!!!

We have not put straw on the strawberries yet as the weather has been lovely.  I thought the color of the leaves were so pretty.  I hope they are suppose to look this way!!

Dan surprised me with an electric kettle.  It heats the water very quickly and I use it for my tea!

It is time to study and plan next year's garden!  I do hope my courtyard garden produces better than this past year!

I have been crocheting more foldover pot holders to go with the dish cloths.  You would think I would be a whizz by now but I still have trouble with the first couple of rows.  After that it is easy.

Coco says "woe is me".  I don't get near enough green beans to eat!  I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and enjoyed your visit here today!  Stay warm and be safe!

Hi Nancy, Happy Birthday! It sounds like you enjoyed your Thanksgiving Weekend. I too have been busy putting away all the Fall decorations and putting up the Christmas ones. Your strawberries look great. Hopefully, they will winter well once the cold weather really gets started. Poor Coco, life can be hard, lol!

Your home looks so cozy. I’m glad that you were able to spend the holiday with family. That means so much. You’ve made quite a few dish cloths and potholders. I knew you could do it once you figured out those first few rows. Wishing you a most lovely day my friend.
Blessings, Betsy

Hi Nancy :) Awww...poor Coco...aren't we so mean to our pets? Lol...your strawberries do look pretty. And what a nice photo of your family! Happy belated birthday!!!!! :) I like the book you have on indoor kitchen gardening, what a great idea, I'll have to look for a book like that too. My herbs don't fare very well by the window, so I need some tips for the winter!

Hi Rain, Yes, I think we both spoil our furbabies! Isn't that what they are for!! It is a challenge trying to grow something in the winter for me! Good luck to you. Nancy

Hi Granny Marigold. Thank you. I was not familiar with an electric kettle until I received it from my son as a surprise gift! Nancy

Hi Henny Penny, Thank you! Here is a good video on making those pot holders. A friend helped me get started on the first couple of rows and then I referred to the video. Give them a try! Nancy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwPmG2bFrYM

I'm glad you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I love decorating the house for Christmas and it's even more fun when the family gets involved. Love those books! Looks like the perfect winter reading - I have a feeling you will get some great tips from them for gardening in our new home.

Hi Leigh, Thanks! Can't wait for more of the family to be here at Christmastime! I bet that electric kettle might get a lot of use for tea. Nancy

Hi Margaret, I think I need more than great tips to having a better courtyard garden next year but I will try! Do you have a favorite garden book? Nancy

My gardening book shelf overfloweth ;) The two that I really love and refer to often at the moment are Vegetable Gardeners Bible & Year Round Vegetable Gardener, but I have a whole stack that I've purchased in the past year that are on my "to read" list.

Hi Nancy, sorry that I missed your birthday. It looks like you were surrounded by loved ones . . . that is marvelous. Love your tree . . . it is so pretty. We went to a smaller tree this year. It is still tall, but about a forth of the size around than our old one. It takes up so much less room which is good because we have lots of company coming from all over the country. My sister has been put on hospice care and for the next two or three weeks we will be having lots of company. It will be great to see everyone, but sad that this is the reason for getting together.
Again Happy Birthday!
Connie :)

Hi Margaret, I do have the Vegetable Gardeners Bible and when we moved I think I got rid of Year Round Vegetable Gardener and now wish I would not have. I was trying to downsize and got rid of several of my garden books. I do love Gardening books! Keep me in mind if you run across good small garden and raised bed books! Nancy

Hi Connie, We also had a wider tree but went to the narrower one and I do like it. I am so sorry to hear that your sister has been put on hospice care. I know your heart must be heavy. May God give you extra comfort and strength to you and her also. Nancy

Progress in the Courtyard!

It was so nice to look out my bedroom window this morning and see the Clematis blooming instead of a pile of snow.  It is a rainy day agai...
