Flowers, Jungle, Comfey, Parsley & Sugar Peas

We have had some rain and the flowers have started to bloom again!  Lots of color in the rose circle now.

Some more color around the fountain again.  Guess winter is not here yet!

The squash and cucumbers have turned into a jungle now.  Hard for hubby to mow!

My Comfrey plant has split the pot and is huge.  I had planned to make Comrey Tea to fertilize my veggies but due to health problems I did not get it done.  I don't have the heart to ask my "wonderful gardener" to do it when he doesn't even like to garden!  Oh, well, next year!!  I think "next year" is a favorite saying of us gardeners!  Does anyone else make Comfrey Tea for their veggies?????

Some more color back into the raspberry/flower bed too!  I guess if things bloomed all winter I would not appreciate their beauty as much as I do for the season.

I guess I must be out of my mind as I picked more parsley today to dry.  It tries my patience taking it off the stems!

The Sugar Peas are starting to grow up the lattice.  I sure hope I get some mature ones to eat before we get our first frost!  Hoping, hoping, hoping..........

Gosh, I love those roses-how beautiful. Glad things are coloring up again for you. We're a lush green oasis now--the rain just keeps coming and coming.

I freeze my parsley, on the stem, to put into stews/soups...and just pick it out before serving. I don't like de-stemming anything either!

What does comfey tea do for the vegetables? Have not heard of this before.

I am curious too about what comfrey tea is supposed to do for the garden; I've never heard of using it before. Your flowers do look beautiful and good luck with those fall peas! I've been very bad about getting the fall garden started this year. Really lost steam when the hot weather hit hard.

Hi Sue, We had hot and dry weather for awhile so thankful for the rains we have been getting lately! I have frozen herbs before but not organized to use them. Just put in a plastic bag. Do you have a better way? Thanks for visiting! Come again! Nancy

Hi Shawn Ann and Nutmeg, I have read about Comfrey tea but have not tried it yet. It is used to fertilize your veggies. Carol also mentioned it in her video. If you want to know how, I can send you an e-mail. Just let me know if your interested. Comfrey leaves are also suppose to be good to help your compost pile break down faster. Here is the video if you have not watched it. http://pleasantvictory.blogspot.com/2011/02/carol-bowlbys-urban-garden.html Thank you both for visiting! Nancy

Things always look beautiful after a nice rain. Glad to hear you have had rain. Love you jungle of cucumber and squash. I am just trying to keep my comfrey alive right now, it is so so dry. Hoping to use it for making salves, but also know it is a great compost booster (just throw the leaves and and mix into your compost) and you can make a "tea" to water plants.

Thanks Emily! I hope your Comfrey grows for you! What kind of salves do you make with it and how do you use those salves? Please come again! Nancy

I have only made a few salves - with using plantain and one with chamomile and a few other infused oils that I can't seem to remember right now (maybe lavender). Basically infusing oil with something (like plantain or in my case) and heating it with beeswax to help solidify it. The beeswax helps thicken and solidify the mixture into a salve, or whatever consistency you want - just vary the beeswax amount. Here is a link to check out one way to make plantain salve. I will use it when making comfrey salve too. I best get to it before my comfrey dries up to a crisp and disappears completely. http://hardworkhomestead.blogspot.com/2012/03/plantain-salve.html

Envious of your squash and cucumber 'jungle' as the squash vine borers destroyed ours over a month ago. Your garden always looks so lovely.
