January 20th 2018

Fifty dollars worth of gluten free mixes from Bob's Red Mill!  I dislike not being able to have wheat, barley and rye but......it could be worse!!

I made up one of the chocolate chip cookie mixes.  Here they are minus one!  A baker always has to sample whatever they bake!  They are pretty tasty but can't measure up to the ones that I use to make in Michigan when the kids were growing up!

Our little sweetheart, Nora, came for a visit.  Look at that!  Standing up to the couch already!  She will be a year old in April.  Time goes by so quickly.

Another matching pot holder and dish cloth finished.

I saw instructions of how to make cloth bookmarks so thought I would give it a try.  I had cut out three.  Not sure how practical these are but there are still some people that would rather have a book in their hand than read it on a kindle.  That happens to be me although I do read them on my kindle too.

I am reading "Powerless The Year The Lights Went out".
Here's the synopsis that Amazon gives for the book:
A nationwide power cut sends the UK into darkness and the lights are going to be off for a long time. There is no mains water, no petrol and no news. Towns and cities are chaotic and dangerous. Who will survive the months ahead without electricity? But out in the country, Sandra is determined to keep going. Can she keep her family healthy through the long, wet winter? And can they all adapt to life without power?
We have electricity but I sure miss getting outdoors with all this rain we have been having!  Hopefully soon!  Have a great week!

Your bookmarks are lovely Nancy. I use a cloth bookmark & find it great. That book looks most interesting ... I love it when bloggers recommend books they have read ... I think I might see if my library has that one. Hope your weather clears up soon Nancy.

Hi Julie, Thank you! The bookmarks took quite a bit of my time to make. I guess i am just slow! Hope your library has the book and that you will enjoy it. have a lovely rest of week! Nancy

That book does look interesting. I'll check if our library has it.
Do you put stiffener in the bookmarks? They do look pretty.
And the cookies look good too but I don't think the gluten free quite come up to the standard of the regular ones. As you say, better that than no cooky at all. Take care,

Hi Granny Marigold, Thanks for commenting. The one instructions for the bookmarks called for quilt batting. It is not stiff but gives a little body and by the time you do all that stitching it seems to be okay. Hope you like the book. I am still reading it and find it interesting. Nancy

I agree with the other ladies that the book looks very interesting. I think I’ll check our local library too. I much prefer real books to reading on my Kindle. i use the Kindle when I travel, otherwise a real book and book marker it is for me. And your book markers are just gorgeous. Nice dishcloth and potholder too. You’ve caught onto that pattern very well! I hope you have a lovely day.
Blessings, Betsy

What a lovely idea your bookmarks are and such pretty fabric too. Although I read mainly from a Kindle, I much prefer the feel of a 'proper' book.

Hi Elizabethd, Thanks! Glad you could stop by! Technology is nice but there is just something about having a real book in your hand! Happy reading!# Nancy

Hi Nancy :) I love those bookmarks! I make mine just out of watercolours and we use them a lot more than I thought we would! They come in handy for cookbooks too. :) I love your pot holder and dishcloth too! I remember buying the Bob's Red Mill stuff...$50 sounds about right for that small amount of stuff...it's expensive isn't it?

Hi Rain, Thanks! I never thought about using bookmarks for cookbooks. Good idea. Yes, I find trying to eat gluten free is expensive. I do buy what I can from Aldi's. They have good prices. Takes too much time and energy to make everything from scratch with gluten free flour. Nancy

Those book markers are adorable! I love how it turned out! That Nora is a sweetie for sure. Look at her sweet face. I bet you had a sweet visit. I have friends that has to eat gluten free and they hate it. One of my friends struggled so with it and lost about 30 lbs in 6 months time and she did not need to even loose 10 lbs much less 30. Now her dr. has her on other things as well to build her back up. But I have a friend too that says though she dislikes being gluten free she has learned a lot and feels better than she has in 20 years. Hope you have a good rest of the week dear lady. Hugs and blessings, Cindy

Hi Cindy from Creations By Cindy, Thank you! I don't feel any better eating gluten free but my symptoms are itchy rashes. They are less if I try to eat gluten free but I also take medicine for it. Glad you could visit! Nancy

I'm still a paper book fan so those bookmarks look pretty useful to me - don't even own a kindle yet! I'm glad that those mixes allow you to keep "sampling" some goodies - they may not be as good as your traditional ones, but I would think it beats going without completely!

Hi Margaret, There is just something about holding a real book in your hand, isn't there! I wonder if the future generation growing up reading on their technical gadgets will feel that way about their gadgets! I am still trying to learn about gluten free! Nancy
