Harvest Monday, Another area mulched, Planting Onions, 4 rows onions, Tomato Cages, Lovage

I am envious of the produce everyone else shows for their Harvest Monday pictures!  But I am thankful for the little I grow too!!

One more area mulched!  What veggie or veggies would you suggest I plant in that wooden planter????

Guess what!  I am planting onions.  It said plant them every three inches so I am using the tape measure!  You can laugh now if you want!

4 rows of onions planted!  New at planting onions so am hoping they grow!

I bought four of these blue tomato cages.  That is my sad cherry tomato plant I started from seed.  Is this what you call faith!!!  lol  The wind blew it over.  I probably killed it!  I thought it needed to be planted deeper so added more potting soil.  It is back in the sunny window.  I haven't given up on it yet but I may.

My Lovage is doing well.  I use a little in my salads and also in my soups.  I don't make stews.  I dry it to use in the winter.  What other things might I use it for?????

I use a tape measure when I plant, too. It's an OCD thing ;-) I've also been known to uproot a plant and move it 1-2" to the (right, left, north, south)if it isn't in the exact spot where I want it.

Oh my goodness Annie! I have a kindred spirit!!! Hope you are having great days outside! Should I include the price of therepy in my total harvest as gardening is good therepy! lol Nancy

Don't feel bad about using a measuring tape.. I made planting templates because I got tired of measuring and my guessing didn't work out so well. That wooden planter might be a good spot for mint, so it won't take over your garden!

Hi Julie! Templates sound like a wonderful idea. How many did you make? Not sure I want to use my wooden planter space for mint as I don't use that much of it. I have it in a pot now. I overwintered some in that pot but it did not come up well but found one in the ground so transplanted it there. Wondered if I could keep it under control by planting a small amount in the ground in late fall and then dig it up in the spring and put in a pot? What do you think? Happy to have you stop by for a visit! Nancy

I've never tasted lovage. Maybe I need to give it a try! Good luck with your tomato. It has such a nice cage, it needs to hurry up and occupy it!

I have a couple of those cages in orange. Aren't they pretty?

Hi Patricia, Lovage has a little bit of a celery taste. Mine has really taken off this year. Probably time I divide it. Yes, I love the colorful tomato cages! I have only used the littler cages and they don't work too well. Hope the larger ones work better! Thanks for stopping by and please come again! Nancy

Things are going good at your place it looks like. I'm sure your tomato plant will come through just fine. Perhaps a vining squash in the planter to run up along the fence? I used to have some lovage years ago; just mainly used it like celery leaves for soup and stew.

Nancy, Looks like you have a great start on the gardening scene!! Love your gardening area! Best of luck with your onions. I have lots of luck with any kind of pepper plants, as well as squash in my round planters! The sky is the limit!!!
Happy Gardening! Look forward to following your blog in the future!

Hi Ebullient Gardener, Thanks for your encouragement. I do get discouraged thinking things don't grow as well or as fast as I like! lol I am thinking maybe a squash in the wooden planter but not sure now since I received those white barrels today. Gotta rethink! Please visit again. Happy Gardening! Nancy

Hi Nancy! Thanks for stopping by my blog! I replied to your comment there. Your garden is looking good! I love onions and yours will do well in that new bed! I have never used lovage and wouldn't know it if I saw it before now. Sounds interesting, though. Don't give up on your cherry tomato! I think it will be alright! Blessings from Bama!

Hi Bama Girl, Thanks for visiting again and thanks for your encouraging words. Maybe that will help my things to grow! I do have my ups and downs but what gardener doesn't! Come again. Nancy

Hi Nancy! Your garden is lovely and your recipes in your previous posts look delicious! I'm like 'Annie's Granny' in that I'll move plants over that little bit to get it just right. Our poor 50+ liriopes have been moved at least 3-4 times before I feel I've gotten it 'right'! They recover well and look great now. Thank you for visiting Shady Grove Journal. Tom has received some of the nicest feedback, including yours, about the new trellis he built and I'm sure to relay all the nice words his way. I've enjoyed visiting your blog and will stop by again.

PS I play the piano too. For a number of years was the pianist for the church we attended until we began going to another church. I so enjoyed playing duets with a young lady who was an accomplished flutist. Now I just play offertories occasionally and LOVE playing for my own pleasure and enjoyment. To play your flute in a band ensemble sounds like so much fun! Have a wonderful day!

Hi Lisa, So glad you had time to visit. It sounds like we have a lot in common with our music. I was a brass player way back in high school and didn't learn to play the flute until I was in my 50's so playing in the band is a real challenge but good for the brain!!! Little rain here today and dreary so no pictures or post today. Hope you will have time to come again and I will be checking yours! Nancy

I saw these different colored tomato cages in Lowes the other day and almost bought one...any garden hints are appreciated!!

Hi Kathryn, I love the pretty colors of the large cages but wonder how sturdy they will be! This is the first for the big ones for me. Is your yard and garden large? Thanks for visiting and please come again! Nancy

What is lovage?

Cozy Thyme Cottage said...

Hi Elizabeth, Lovage is an herb. It has a celery like taste and can be used to season soups, stews or a little in your salad. It can also be dried to use in soups and stews in the winter. Glad you stopped by. Please come visit again! Nancy

Progress in the Courtyard!

It was so nice to look out my bedroom window this morning and see the Clematis blooming instead of a pile of snow.  It is a rainy day agai...
