Lettuce, berries, peas, compost, vinegar & cabbage

I am still harvesting lettuces.  In fact, I am getting tired of salads!!

We picked strawberries from our own patches.  We have ever-baring but have gotten so much rain that they haven't been good lately.  Hope they straighten up.

We don't have a very large patch of strawberries so bought five buckets from a local farm.  It was a job getting them all put up in the freezer but after they were done we were glad that we had did them!  Isn't that always the way!

I wanted lots of sugar peas to put in the freezer for this winter and I am getting them.  These are ready to be flash frozen!

I am amazed!!!  Five buckets of compost from our compost pile!  These are five gallon buckets.  We have never gotten this much before.  I must be learning how to do it!

Chive blossom vinegar!  I was a little slow in harvesting my chive blossoms but did get a little vinegar made up.  Isn't it pretty!!!!

Shelling peas!  So good harvested from the garden but I think maybe they are not worth my time or space.  I may not grow them next year.

My first cabbage harvested tonight!!  Isn't it great to be picking more than just a few lettuce leaves!  How are your gardens doing?

It is wonderful to have more than greens to harvest - although for me, it is not much more. Wouldn't it be wonderful to pick a big bucket of berries from our own patch? One day maybe..... Those peas look delicious - I'm planning on growing some shelling peas in the fall (my 1st time) even though their yield is pretty small for the space they take up.

Hi Margaret, Hope you will soon be getting much more than greens too. I don't think I will ever grow much more strawberries than I am now as it is hard for us to pick them and also just have a city lot. Good luck on yours! Nancy

How is my garden doing, you asked ? ... well doing real good if you like wild flowers, grass and weeds. YES ...that is what my garden is doing. However, I have a small place reserved for three tomato plants, and have some tomatoes coming on but none harvested as yet ... then, growing our of my compost pile is a huge cantaloupe vine that I think will take over the back yard and never produce. The runners are growing about one-foot per day and the blossoms and leaves are HUGE. We will see ... would love a home-grown cantaloupe.
You are getting a good looking harvest.
Blessings,
Audrey Z.

Hi Audrey, Well, at least you have some things producing!!! It has rained a lot lately and I have lots of those weeds now too. I only have three tomato plants this year and two of them are the small tomatoes. It would be great if you do harvest cantaloupe!!! Nancy

Lovely harvests. I don't grow shelling peas because of the work. Snap peas to me are just as good and don't take nearly the effort. I do grow favas though. Now they are a real pain, but I do love them.

Hi Daphne, Thanks. I think this is the last year I will grow shelling peas too! Since I don't have a lot of space I can use that space for something else! Nancy

Isn't it wonderful to have fresh things from ones own garden! Our early crops are almost finished, now I'll wait for corn, peas, beans and tomatoes. We are needing rain ~ can you believe it?

Hi Jeanette, Thanks! I can't seem to find my recipe tonight for the chive blossom vinegar but all I did was put some chive blossoms in a jar, heat some vinegar (don't boil) and pour over the chives, put a lid on (lid should not be metal) and store in a dark place for two weeks shaking once in awhile. Strain. Nancy

Hi lil red hen, Yes, it is great to finally be getting veggies from the garden to eat. We sure don't need rain. Have had an abundance and the end is not in site. Wish I could send you some! Nancy

What do you use your chive vinegar for?

Hi Becky, I make my own sloppy joes from scratch and will use the chive vinegar in that. I have also made up a salad dressing with it. Nancy
