Thyme, Peaches & Lyme

I cut a little more thyme to dry.  I have not harvested a lot of things and I have not taken pictures of the things I did pick.  A few cherry and sungold tomatoes, another cabbage, a couple summer squash and a couple nice cucumbers and now a couple fat short ones.  I wonder why they are like that?

Woe is me!!!!  My peaches have Peach Scab and Brown rot!  I am so disappointed!  I had hoped we would get some nice peaches after "wonderful gardener" pruned and sprayed them this spring.  I guess we are not very good at growing fruit trees!

The hibiscus has started blooming.  It does brighten one's day to look out the window in the morning and see this.  I just wish the blooms would last longer!

This is the view looking out the kitchen window over the sink.  That black thing hanging is a parrot that we bought in Cancun.   The curtains are blue.

Here is a little different view.

This picture and the next is an article that was in the South Bend Tribune today.  South Bend, Indiana is about a 45 minute drive from us.  I have Lyme disease but I had never given it much thought until I developed it.  This article and the next picture tells a little about it and what a couple people have gone through.

I never developed a bullet rash.  Be careful blogging friends and check for ticks.  Thanks for visiting!

That's so sad about the peaches - the only thing worse than not getting any fruit at all from your trees is getting fruit that then gets diseased or infested. I hope that you are feeling better & your infection turns out to be more similar to the first lady in the article than the second. I have never really thought about ticks that much, but will definitely be more mindful from now on.

Hi Margaret, Yes, it would be bad too if the fruit looked good and then got diseased or infected. I wish I would be like the first lady too and get over the Lyme quickly! Not something to wish on anyone. Nancy

Hi Nancy! I'm so sorry you've been suffering with Lyme disease! Maybe you can write a post on your experience; how you got the tick and all. That seems to happen to my peaches every year now! I don't know what to do about it! It's so frustrating! The hibiscus is beautiful! You have a nice scene from your kitchen! I sure hope you get well soon! Praying for you! Blessings from Bama!

Hi Felecia, Thank you for your prayers! I appreciate it. The owner of our local Feed and Seed store told me to spray them with Copper Fungicide and horticultural oil fall and spring. If you want to use that you might google it as to when as I am still trying to learn when we should do it. Have a nice day! Nancy

So good of you to share your experience of Lyme disease but so sorry to hear about it. Deer ticks are quite rampant in my area (Eastern Ontario) and I check myself every night if I've been working outside.

Hi Susie, Thanks for visiting. I never saw a bulls eye with my infection and lots of people don't. The ticks can be very small. Good that you check yourself after working outdoors. Nancy

Too bad about the peaches. Lyme is something I've worried about a lot. I used to orienteer every weekend, which involves running through the woods off the paths. Ticks aren't uncommon and those tiny deer ticks are hard to find. Though I've had some really good (and expensive) Lyme tests and they have come back negative, though they do show antibodies to some of the antigens, they are all in ones that cross correlate with Epstein Barr (and I'm pretty sure I had mono 8 years ago). BTW if you have trouble getting rid of it, talk to your doctor about pulse dosing. I've read some very promising research on it recently, though I don't know if they have developed a protocol for it yet or not.

Hi Daphne, I don't think my test showed any Epstein Barr but not sure. It showed borrelia, bartonella and mycoplasma. I have never heard of pulse dosing I don't think so will have to google it. Thanks for the info. Nancy

So sorry about your peaches! Your hibiscus is beautiful! Lyme disease is dreadful. It is really bad here too. We are in southwest VA. Not sure how close we are. Quentin and Quentin Jr seem to have recovered, but I have read it can come back at anytime. Did your doctors tell you anything like that? I have a friend who is suffering through it right now.

Hi Vicki, We are in Northwest Indiana. I understand that it has to be treated past the time you think you are well to make sure it is gone. Can be two, three years or sooner from what I read. Thanks for your comment! Have a nice day. Nancy

I was worried about the chance of getting Lyme disease but was relieved to read that only one percent of tics tested in B.C. carry that dreadful disease. Anyway, I'm avoiding tall grass as much as possible. I do hope you will get better soon. Your Hibiscus flower is a stunner. The peaches...not so much. It's too bad. No wonder you're disappointed.

Hi Granny Marigold, I am glad you don't have a lot of ticks where you live. We are infested with them in Indiana. Hoping to beat this sooner rather than later! We enjoy the wonder of the hibiscus flower every year! Nancy

I have the same trouble with my peaches. Most of our fruit has something or other the matter with it! So, the chickens and pigs get a lot of treats anyway.

Hi Leigh, I guess misery loves company but at least you get to feed yours to your animals! Nancy

Progress in the Courtyard!

It was so nice to look out my bedroom window this morning and see the Clematis blooming instead of a pile of snow.  It is a rainy day agai...
