Just Pickin' and a eatin'!

This is the last of my cabbages and it was kind of small!  We will miss our fresh cole slaw!

There are more green tomatoes out there but not sure they will ripen now that the weather has turned cooler.

The last of the beans!!  Coco will have to eat frozen ones!

Not much to pick anymore on the raspberries!  Good while they lasted which has been quite awhile!

My one pepper plant did not give me any peppers all summer!  Now I pick these little ones!  Thankful my friends Ann and Paul gave me a few of theirs for my freezer!

I was all out of pizza sauce so made up some for my pizza casserole and to put some in the freezer for future use.

We are cleaning up out gardening beds.  Well, if truth be known "Wonderful Gardener" is doing most of the work but I make a pretty good supervisor!  Would you believe "Wonderful Gardener" does not like to garden but will do anything for his little wife!  The zinnias and marigold still look pretty and didn't want to take them out yet.  We could get a frost in a couple of weeks though!

I finally finished sewing the middle of this lap quilt together.  Now to try to figure out how I planned to do the borders and binding that I bought quite awhile ago!

Guilty!!!  My hard working helper has to rest once in awhile!  Do you agree?!

Hi Nancy! What delicious harvests! You are blessed to still be getting these things! The flowers are still lovely! What a pretty lap quilt that will be! Coco has the best seat in the house! Hope you are feeling better! Thanks for sharing! Blessings from Bama!

Love that cabbage! That's one veg that I have yet to try as I've always thought of it as being one of the harder ones. I'm wondering if my green tomatoes will ripen before frost as well - let's cross our fingers that we get a few more from our vines before they are kaput!

Hi Felecia, Thanks! I am doing about the same. Not much energy. Do a little and rest a lot. We could get a frost in a couple of weeks so I guess winter is coming! Thanks for visiting! Nancy

Hi Margaraet, Thanks! I think the main thing about growing cabbage is keeping the cabbage butterflies from them. Do you wrap your green tomatoes in newspaper and try to store? I should try making fried green tomatoes I guess! Nancy

I love that your "Wonderful Gardener" doesn't really like to garden but does so for your sake. That's the situation here too. So many jobs around the place that he or my grown sons now do that I used to do.
Your lap quilt is coming along nicely. I don't sew but I did find a cute lap quilt in pretty shades of pink not unlike yours!!

Love the quilt! I'm in the middle of doing one each for the girls, made from their old baby clothes!

Hi Granny Marigold, Great to find a lap top quilt and not have to sew it yourself! Enjoy! Until I get over this Lyme disease hubby has to help more than usual! Thankful for his help! Nancy

Hi Rosie, Thanks! How wonderful of you to make quilts for your girls from their old baby clothes! I will look forward to seeing pictures of it. Nancy

Beautiful harvests! You have a lovely blog. :)

I love raspberries and homegrown ones are so nice to have. I love the colors in that quilt too. You'll have to show it off when it's done. I had to laugh at your helper 'resting', because that's all our cats do!

I somehow missed this post until now. I've never grown a cabbage that pretty! All your garden vegetables have been pretty. I have a few little green tomatoes too. They ripen pretty quick when I bring them inside. It's funny that my bell peppers are just now beginning to look good and grow peppers. Same with the eggplant. Coco sure looks cozy, oh and I love that quilt top!

I am jealous that you have a garden. I didn't get even one plant in this year...not a good year here at all that way! There is NOTHING like fresh veggies from the garden, is there? How great that you have enough to freeze some to enjoy this winter...also very WONDERFUL that you have a GARDENER to help you! lol Love the resting helper! xo Diana

Mmmm ... pizza sauce. I think it's dinner time for me. :) Beautiful quilt!

Hi Henny Penny, I do have a cover I put on the cabbages so that does help quite a lot. Do you wrap your tomatoes in newspaper or anything when you bring them in? What's up with our bell peppers this year!!!! Nancy

Hi Susie, Thanks! I wish you had a blog so that I could comment on yours! Thanks for visiting again. Nancy

Hi Dave at Our Happy Acres, Thanks! Our animals work so hard helping us, don't they! Picked a few more raspberries today. Will be sorry to see them go. Might be awhile before the quilt is finished at the speed I work! But slow and steady wins the race they say! Nancy

Hi Linda, Thank you for your kind comments. Hope you will visit again! Nancy

Hi NanaDiana, Thanks for commenting. Better luck to you on gardening next year. Fresh veggies from the garden are so nice. My little helper is sometimes a nuisance but we love here anyway! Nancy

Your lap quilt looks so pretty. I am going to clean up our veggie bed this week. I wanted to do it earlier, but David said he had a few more peppers to pick.

Hi Betty from My Irish Cottage, Thanks! In one way I am glad to get the garden back to neat and tidy but on the other hand I will sure miss the fresh veggies! So will Coco! Nancy

Hi Nancy,
Nice to meet you! Thanks for stopping over.
You just reminded me that my neighbor hasn't given me any cabbage this year! LOL! I'm going to have to ask him where's my cabbage! I usually blanch it and freeze it for winter use in sausage, green beans, and cabbage in the crock pot. And I use it that way in veggie soup too. I hate to see the summer end. I'd probably pick the seeds on those zinnia plants and leave the rest up until next spring. They provide the birds and other little critters with winter cover.
Love the quilt!

Hi Bee Lady, Thanks for visiting and commenting! I wish I would have had enough cabbage to freeze some for soups too. Hope your neighbor will share with you. Will miss the fresh cabbage! Nancy

Hello, Nancy,

Thank you for stopping by my blog. So nice to meet you. I look forward to being retired someday and having the chance to do a few more crafty things although truthfully I think I am better at admiring others handiwork than I am at making it myself. Your quilt is going to be lovely.

Cozy Thyme Cottage said...

Hi Gloriade, Thanks for visiting! I guess I have to say I do a lot more looking than crafting! I do accomplish a little very slowly and as I say, "slow and steady wins the race"! I think you will do more when you retire! Nancy

Hi Nancy, I wonder if the brown implement on the quilt is a tatting tool? or yarn winder or for yarn bobbins for thick wool?
I really like your pictures and like you my husband, The Good Man, tends the beds. Can't wait until I retire, just 3 to 5 more years!
Thanks for posting over on Cheryls Frugal Corner or I wouldn't have known to come here also. You and Cheryl live in the same state! I think she is central-ish?

Hi Ellen, I am glad you could stop by! I hope you will visit again. My hubby doesn't not like to garden but does it for me. Wish I could do it all myself. We are taking some of the things out to make it easier as I have Lyme Disease and it gives me fatigue. We live in Northwest Indiana. Enjoy the week-end. Nancy

Progress in the Courtyard!

It was so nice to look out my bedroom window this morning and see the Clematis blooming instead of a pile of snow.  It is a rainy day agai...
