Spring!

We are having a hard time keeping up these days due to Bob's pinched nerve.  I am getting things done little by little.  I planted a row of mixed lettuces in the cold frame this week!

The chives are up!  That is a sure sign of spring!

I think these bushes have grown too large and they aren't the kind we can trim back now.  I think they should be replaced!  What do you think???  I thought maybe replace with three of those big hostas.  What would your suggestions be??????

I finally finished this lap quilt!  I flipped up one corner so that you could see the back.

I would move the bushes and make a little bed with the hostas you were talking about, as long as you get shade there. They do not like sun. If you do get alot of sun you can plant things that like the sun. So many things to put there. The bigger those bushes get the harder they will be to remove later. Hope your hubby feels better soon.

Hi Betty, Thanks for visiting! We get morning sun. I wonder if the hostas would be okay with that? It is shady in the afternoon. If not, what suggestions do you have? Yes, poor hubby. He has had a lot of pain. I hope he can get some relief soon. Have a nice week-end. Nancy

So happy that you are having some nice weather and getting ready to plant your gardens. Your quilt is beautiful. Hoping Bob gets some relief from the pain soon. Back pain is just not any fun.

I really like your little quilt, both sides are so pretty.
Aren't chives great... they always make it through the winter.
Your bushes are rather large. I wonder how Hostas would fare with morning sun. Do you have a plant shop where you could ask for advice? Have a great weekend.

Hi Audrey, The few days of nice weather we have had has been great. We may get a little more snow but think the blizzards are done! Took me awhile but I finally got that lap quilt done! Have a nice week-end! Nancy

Hi Granny Marigold, Thanks you! Have you ever dried your chives to use in soups in the winter? I wondered how nutritious they are. Good idea to go to the nursery and ask what to put in front of the porch! Thanks for visiting! Nancy

Ah lettuce...I can't wait until I can get some sown (and onto our dinner plates!!). For us it will be another week or so until I can get those going, although I'll have to start them indoors. What a nice outing...yum, yum to Chinese food! And lovely quilt!

Hi Margaret, Thanks! I am not sure if I planted my lettuce to early or not but hoping! If it grows I am ahead and if it doesn't I will just have to replant! I only planted a short row! Nancy

Hi Nancy, it is nice that your weather is finally starting to look like Spring. Ours, too. I planted some onion bulbs Saturday and I have some tomatoes and peppers that I'm starting in the mud room. It is still too cold to use the potting shed, but I think I will transfer them out there around the first of April and then plant seed for the faster growing vegetables. Today is our oldest granddaughter's birthday 10 years old . . . by how time flies :)

Hi Connie, Glad you could visit! I think our winter is not quite done yet but I did buy onion bulbs today. Hope to get them planted soon in my pots in the driveway. Enjoy that potting shed. I know you will! Happy Birthday to your granddaughter! Nancy

Good Morning Nancy, I finally got a chance to stop by. Your quilt is so pretty. Of course, the reds are among my favorite colors. I can see why you need to move your bushes. They have definitely taken over their spot. I hope you can find a nice sun tolerant hosta variety to plant in their place. It would look nice.

Hi Gloriade, Thanks you! So far we have not done anything on the bushes. The kids are coming for a work day Saturday to take out some things in the back yard for us. Thanks for visiting! Nancy

Progress in the Courtyard!

It was so nice to look out my bedroom window this morning and see the Clematis blooming instead of a pile of snow.  It is a rainy day agai...
