Too Hot!

In my enthusiasm one day we bought a bushel and a half of apples.  Guess you know what that means!

We canned 21 pints of thick lumpy applesauce.  It is more work the way we do it as we don't put it through a sieve but we love it done this way.  Also put some in the freezer and made up three 8x8 pans of gluten free apple crisp and put in the freezer ready to pop in the oven!  Have a few apples left.  Maybe I will make "wonderful gardener" some apple donuts that he likes!  I don't know where to store my canned goods in this house so for now they are sitting on the cupboard!

"Wonderful Gardener" brought me this beautiful rose!  Do you think I should make the apple donuts for him??!!

Yummy cut up on our oatmeal!  We are still harvesting a few strawberries from our raised bed.  Looking forward to lots for next spring!

The Morning Glories seem to be enjoying the 90 plus degree weather!  Me not so much!!!!!

I found the directions for making this cute gift card holder on Pinterest to place a gift card in.  I should have taken a picture of the inside!

Our darling sweet great granddaughter Nora came for a visit today.  She didn't look too excited about having a conversation with us!  Happy you could visit!  Enjoy Autumn!

Oh that sweet baby Nora! So relaxed having a nap.
Isn't it strange that your temperatures are so unseasonably warm?
Does one need a deep fryer to make the apple donuts? I don't have one, that's why I ask.

Hi Granny Marigold, Don't we wish we could relax like that! No, you don't need a deep fryer for the apple donut recipe. Really they are apple muffins rolled in melted butter, cinnamon and sugar. I got the recipe from my Mom and I wish I would have ask her where it came from and why they are called donuts! Nancy

What a sweet baby Nora! She looks so content. We like our applesauce chunky too. When I get home next month I'm planning to get a bushel of apples and make some up. I also use it for pie filling. I put it into ziplock bags and freeze it instead of jars. YES! I think "Wonderful Gardener" deserves dozens of donuts. :-). Have a wonderful week my friend. (I think I owe you a letter upon my return home.)
Blessings,
Betsy

Gosh it sure is hot there Nancy!! Well done on the apples & all your produce. I think that rose your hubby bought you is just beautiful. And dear litte Nora is just beautiful too!!! Happy Week to you Nancy Xxx

Nora is so precious. :) Glad to see you got your annual supply of apples for your apple sauce! I like the idea of ready-to-bake apple crisps in the freezer. I've done that with pies in the past. So handy!

Oh, to sleep like a baby again. We love applesauce in our home too. We are having summer temps here, but they say fall will be here tomorrow.

Definitely some apple donuts. That rose is lovely. I have been busy pick apples but have really done much with them except for apples slices with caramel sauce or in salads. Haven't been too ambitious lately. Maybe I will make some apple pancakes. Baby Nora looked very comfy in her chair.

what a sweet baby.
The weather has made me wilt, but the plants love it. Hopefully this 90's stuff is over after today!
Love this time of year and all the apples.

Hi Nancy, what a lovely post and what a busy girl you are. That applesauce is going to be wonderful this winter. Little Nora looks so comfy . . . remember when we could get comfortable in just about any chair or bed. Now, I need my favorite chair and as for beds, there's no place like home, LOL.
Have a glorious day!
Connie :)

Oh my goodness that grandgirl is precious. Nothing like the grands. I love applesauce. I have never tried canning any though. My husband doesn't care for it so I guess that's maybe why I've never made any. Your morning glories are pretty. I planted some from seeds and the bush itself is beautiful but no blooms yet! Maybe soon. The temps are still hot for us too. Hugs and blessings, Cindy

Hi Julie, Thank you! I think maybe this will be the last really hot day. There is a breeze today so not as bad as it has been. I don't want to think about cold weather though! Have a nice day! Nancy

Chunky applesauce is so good, homemade even better. Apple doughnuts sound like a great idea for your dear husband. That was a beautiful rose he gave you.

Have a wonderful week ~ FlowerLady

Hi Leigh, Thank you! Especially thank full this year for what I have gotten preserved as last year all I could do was sit in a chair and tell Bob what to do. LOL I am making dehydrated apples today. Sure wish I had my own apple tree like yours! Nancy

Cozy Thyme Cottage said...

Hi Betty, Yes, if only we could fall asleep like we use too. Guess we didn't appreciate it back then! Today the dehydrator is going with dried apples. Enjoy your cooler temps coming. Nancy

Hi Gloriade, I made up apple donuts today and have the dehydrator going with dried apples. Your apples and caramel sauce sounds so good. I am afraid I would eat too many that way! Hope you get your apples taken care of soon! Nancy

Hi Cheryl, Thank you! Love that baby! Made apple donuts today and the dehydrator is going drying apples. Also freezer cole slaw started. So thankful I can do that this year as my health did not allow it last year. Enjoy your cooler temps! Nancy

Hi Connie, Always love to see your comments! (and everyone else's) I wish I could sleep better. Sometimes not even the bed helps! So thankful we could get the applesauce done. Made apple donuts today and the dehydrator is going with apple slices and freezer cole slaw started! Do you make that? Enjoy your cooler weather now. Ours is coming. Nancy

Hi Creations by Cindy, Thank you! If my husband didn't like applesauce I don't think I would can it either but we both love it and he helps me do it. I hope your Morning Glories blossom soon and give you great joy! Our temps should start to cool down tomorrow. Nancy

Hi Nancy :)) Awwwww....I think he deserves the donuts! :) Apples...I really wanted to go apple picking this month, but it will all depend on when our friend gets back from Europe to get his pups! I hope we still have a chance to get to the orchards so I can make apple sauce too! :) Your Morning Glories are beautiful! Mine died, boo hoo...well, I'm still not sure to be honest. Some of the leaves have died, but some seem so green...they just never bloomed, even with the heat wave the last week. Tomorrow is the last super hot day...I hope the pumpkin realizes that and TURNS ORANGE ALREADY!!! Lol...ps, I posted the baked spaghetti recipe on my blog today! Super easy, let me know if you make it! :)

Those apples look glorious, Nancy! We should be heading to an orchard as well - I doubt the dozen or so apples from my trees will sustain us for long! Loving the gift card holder - I hope that I have the time to indulge in crafts like that at some point soon.

Cozy Thyme Cottage said...

Hi Rain, Thank you for posting the recipe. I did make up the apple donuts and have an apple left so want to make another batch to freeze. I am looking for more cabbage at a reasonable price too to make more Freezer Cole Slaw. Hope you are able to get apples for your sauce! Nancy

Hi Margaret, Thanks! The gift card holder is actually not that hard to do. Hope you can squeeze in some fun time for crafts once in awhile. I think there is another month to buy apples here so hope you find some. Nancy
