December Flurries

We woke up to a little snow one morning!  I guess we should expect it this time of year in our area but it was great to enjoy the nice weather we were blessed with.  It may have spoiled me a bit.

Good thing we put straw on the strawberry bed and winterized it the best we could.  Hoping the plants will make it.

My cold frame cover came to late to plant this year but I ordered seeds yesterday and will be ready when the time comes!

It is 8 foot long and 2 foot wide but sure looks long here!

And then we received more snow!  How many days till spring?

I bought a couple more cabbages and made up more freezer cole slaw in my bread bowl!  LOL  Sure miss my home made whole wheat bread on this gluten free diet!

I bought the Udi's brand of gluten free breakfast sandwich.  It was expensive and I liked mine that I make just as well so made up more and froze.

Of course I save all those egg shells for my garden and crush them with a rolling pen.

I am thrilled to see my Christmas Cactus blooming!  What a cheery sight when I walk by.  Thanks for visiting!  Stay warm and dream about your gardens!!!

Oh, I would miss that homemade bread, too.
I hope you stay warm. We've had such nice weather. It really doesn't seem like December.

Hi Pom Pom, It didn't seem like December until the snow and cold came. I am really trying to eat gluten free. on med and now I am breaking out on my face so I don't want to cheat right now and make bread! Sure miss it though! Nancy

How nice to see a Christmas cactus in bloom.

It looks like you’re all ready for spring there! Your Christmas cactus is absolutely gorgeous. I went out and priced a gluten-free pie for Christmas for our grandchildren you have celiac‘s disease. Oh my goodness! I always buy them the Udi’s brand hamburger or hotdog buns when they come to visit and I can’t believe how expensive they are. It’s not a inexpensive way to eat is it?
Blessings, Betsy

Hi Elizabethd, Yes, I was happy to see some blooms. There are just blooms and buds on one side though and the beds aren't opening up! I love Christmas cacdtus! Nancy

Hi Betsy, Thanks! It has some buds that don't seem to be opening up so hope they do! Yes, gluten free is very expensive it seems and I am not sure how healthy some of the ingredients are. That is why I like to make my own when I can but it takes time! I have tried the tried the gluten free hamburg and hot dog buns from Aldi's and am not fond of them. I will have to try the Udi brand! Hi Nancy :) Your Christmas Cactus is lovely! The snow looks nice, and I'm very envious of those cold frames!!! Mine don't seem to be doing too well, sigh...that's okay though, it was an experiment and I'll see what survived this spring I guess! :)

Hi Rain, I love my Christmas Cactus but the other buds on it don't seem to be opening! Sorry your cold frames are not doing well. There is a crack between the two sections that don't come quite together so will have to figure out how to take care of that! Nancy

Hi Nancy, your cold cover frame looks wonderful. It is strange to see your pictures of snow when it is so hot & dry & windy here. Things are dry already & turning brown in the garden. Its hard to keep it all watered. Love your Christmas cactus Nancy.

Hi Julie, My internet has been done so am slow responding. I don't like the part of having to spend so much time watering in our summers but it is necessary! Have a nice Christmas! Nancy

go to amazon books and look for nicole hunn's gluten free books.
go to 'honeyville farms' web site. lots of almond flour--make delicious, nutritious cookies and many other edibles.
gluten free is different and took a long time to begin to get the hang of it but so many are experimenting with recipes to make the best breads.
no need to suffer too much.
we make gluten free pizza with cauliflower for the crust. delicious. look on internet for recipes. very easy.
someone told me she grates lots of cauliflower and freezes it in bags ,each bag with a recipe worth of veg.
very easy.
i eat schar bread because it is one gluten free bread that is big enough to have a piece of cheese on it without hanging over the edges!
'mennonite girls can cook' web site has recipes for gluten free perogy dough and other things. they have a cookbook, too.

Looks like you may get a white Christmas! At least your Christmas cactus is blooming, that's a great. Love your cold frames. Attractive as well as useful!

Hi Nancy, we are getting some snow, too. Looks like we might have a White Christmas. I absolutely love your garden boxes. You will be able to have a garden for many years with those. No bending . . . they are perfection:) Your Christmas cactus is beautiful.
Wishing you a Very Merry Christmas!
Your blogging sister,
Connie :)

Hi Leigh, Thanks. We may get a little snow for Christmas and that is okay with me. The kids have arrived from the East Coast so now I don't have to be concerned about the roads till they go home. Not having to bend to garden at our age is very helpful! Nancy

Hi Connie, We have no snow right now but may get some for Christmas which will be nice and then it can stop! LOL It is nice to have the garden boxes on legs and as I get a few years here I hope to learn to do things better so that I can grow more produce. You have a wonderful Christmas too! Nancy

Merry Christmas, Nancy! I posted a comment a few days ago but apparently it disappeared!.
Oh well, basically, the message was Merry Christmas! (We have about 12 inches of snow on the ground - want some?).

Hi jayneonweedtreet.com, Thank you for taking the time to comment. I don't know what your new blog name is but being warmer in GA sure must be nicer than the cold weather we are having here. I was disappointed in my cactus that all the blossoms did not open up. Have a good New Year. Nancy

Progress in the Courtyard!

It was so nice to look out my bedroom window this morning and see the Clematis blooming instead of a pile of snow.  It is a rainy day agai...
