Sue and I, Hanging Basket, Watering Can, Clematis, Peas, Calendula, Radishes, Garden Book

This is our daughter Sue and I.  She told me that if I would pose this way that it makes you look slimmer!  lol  She really spoiled me today and took me clothes shopping and out to lunch.  I hate looking for clothes but she was very patient picking things out and bringing different sizes for me to try on!

This is the beautiful hanging basket that Mike and Melissa brought over for me for Mother's Day.  I think it is very pretty and will enjoy it sooo much!

We bought this blue watering can.  I think it goes nice with my new sign!

After lunch Sue and I went to Home Depot and I bought this Clematis.  I am hoping it will grow up the side of the Pergola!

My peas are growing but not fast enough to suit me!  I think I should be called the Impatient Gardener!

This Calendula reseeded itself from last year.  I think the color is so vibrant!

This is my harvest for today!  I think there are a few more out there.  I also cut some spinach to take to Sue today and have been eating spinach in my salads every night.  I am  going out to cut a few asparagus spears to eat tonight too.

I am enjoying this garden book from the library so much!  I told my wonderful gardener that the pictures are so pretty that it would make a non-gardener want to garden!!!!  Hope everyone is enjoying these beautiful days out in their gardens!

New Sign, Asparagus Ferns, Geranium, Blue Tea Cup

My new sign I received in the mail yesterday from our son, Dan for Mother's Day!!!  What a great surprise it was!  I have been wanting one for two or three years as that is what I call our little place.  I love it!!  I am one spoiled Mom!

Another view of it!

These are my asparagus ferns that I overwintered in our garage.  A bird (sparrow) built a nest in one of them.  This morning I noticed two birds in there and they didn't seem to be fighting.  This afternoon when I was out two birds flew out and I looked and two birds were still in the nest!  How could four birds be in that one nest?  The two left in the nest did not fly off and didn't look quite as large as a mature sparrow, but it seems too soon for the birds to hatch and be that large! Anyone have any theorys?

I planted a pink geranium and some alysum around the base of it in this pot.  I have another one just like it on the other side of the deck.  Energy level low today so didn't get as much accomplished as I would have liked!

I did get some marigolds planted in my blue tea cup.  Not sure where they will be located!  It was a beautiful sunny day here a Cozy Thyme Cottage!

New Bird Feeder, Coco, Bird House, Coral Bells, Petunias, Tomatoes & Peppers

Coco got me a bird feeder for Mother's Day!  It is green and at the top of the picture.  My wonderful gardener hung it up today.

Coco thought maybe she could find some seed that had fallen on the ground to eat!  It won't have a chance to reseed in the lawn with her around.

This bird house is sitting on top of the strawberry planter with thyme planted in the holes of it.  My wonderful gardener put some wood on the bottom of the bird house so that it would not blow off so easily!

I love my Coral Bells.  They don't show up very well in this picture but they are starting to bloom now and if I keep them deadheaded will bloom for quite awhile.  I received a starter of these from a friend in Michigan when we lived there and brought them here.

Planted Wave Petunias today.  They were kinda tall but I loved the color.  Hoping they will do okay.

Planted the three tomato plants in the barrels and the green sweet bell peppers in the pails.  I read that tomatoes and peppers are enemies but didn't have much choice so hope they do okay.  I ran out of energy today!

Scented Geranium, New Flowers, Eggplant, Lavender, Sweet Potato, 3 Tomato Plants & Onions

I was so thrilled to find this Attar of Roses Scented Geranium today!  It releases a rose-lemon scent when brushed against.  It is suppose to get little pink flowers on it.  I use to have one but had to give it away when we left for the winter.  Hoping I can keep this one!

Here are some more flowers and perennials that we bought today.  After my wonderful gardener paid the bill he agreed we need to learn how to grow some things from seeds this next year!!!!!!

I thought this plant was a tomato plant!  Wrong I guess.  I planted one pot wth eggplant and one pot with tomato seeds.  One pot came up and one pot didn't.  I thought it was the tomato that came up but now I think it is an eggplant.  Let this be a reminder to me to label what I plant and not depend on my memory!!!

I got the last few weeds out of the lavender circle today and put a little compost and mulch around it.

Remember the sweet potato slips I was trying to grow?  I didn't do so well!  It grew the long roots but got moldy where the water stopped around it so out it went!  Better luck next time Nancy!

Three tomato plants I bought yesterday.  They are Early Girl in the front and Celebrity and Big Beef in the back.

My last picture is of my onions.  Still growing!  Yippee!!!

Asparagus, Healthy Cookies, Red in Strawberries, Cherry Tomato & Tomto Seedling

I don't usually weigh my produce that I harvest but I had 10 oz of asparagus this past week!!!  Also had spinach, lovage, chives, a few beet tops, turnip tops and two or three small radishes.  Does anyone freeze their asparagus?  If so, can you still saute it or how do you use your frozen asparagus?

I get hungry mid-morning and mid-afternoon so made up what I call my Healthy Cookies!  The recipe calls them Giant Breakfast Cookies.  They have oatmeal, wholewheat flour and honey in them plus a few other things.  I use less honey but add lots of chocolate chips!  They say dark chocolate is good for you so that is a great reason to add lots of chocolate chips don't you think!

I read that if you paint some stones red and put them among the strawberries that it helps keep the birds from eating your strawberries.  I didn't have any stones or red paint, and being the cheap person...oops...frugal person that I am, I had a couple half bricks and some red material so I used that.  Since I have the red netting on the blueberry bushes and now these and when I get the red netting on the dwarf sweet cherry tree I will be ready for Christmas!!!!

This is the cherry tomato plant I had bought.  Got it planted out yesterday and then we had severe thunderstorm and hail warnings last night.  We just had rain and thunder so I am thankful it escaped the hail!  More rain today.

This is that weak little Rutgers tomato plant I started from seed and posted a picture of awhile back.  It is persistant and is now this big!  Now what should I do???  Do I plant it in a larger pot indoors or harden it off and just plant it outdoors???? Thanks for your gardening help!

Dehydrater, Mulched area, Onions, Cherry tomato, Lettuce, Carrots, Spinach, Thyme, New barrels, Garden book

Dehydrating more apples and bread baking in the oven!  Seems like I eat a lot!

We finished weeding, composting & mulching another area.  Sure glad to have that done.  It had just rained so at least our clay soil was easier to pull weeds from. There is spinach growing in that little white box.

See those little green things?  My onions are growing! I never cease to be amazed when I plant something and it grows!

I plan to plant in this pink pot the cherry tomato plant that I bought.  I was working in the gardens in my T-shirt this morning but in the afternoon I had my winter coat on.  Guess I had better wait to plant it for a few days yet.  We had severe thunderstorm warnings last night but we were lucky to get nothing but a little thunder and lightening and rain.  Not too far from us got hail.

See that itty bitty letuce still growing?  Even after it had been walked on my Cali's little feet.  Miracles will never cease!!!

These are the little carrots growing in my carrot boxes on the deck.  The little picket fence keeps Coco from pulling them out to eat.

I have been cutting spinach leaves from this pot for awhile now.  I love it in my salads.  It is so nice to grow my own instead of paying the price for organic in the stores!

I took Annie's advice and put thyme clippings around my cabbage plants today to keep the cabbage butterflies away.  Thank you Annie for your advice!

I am so excited!  These are my new half  barrels that my wonderful gardener worked so hard to fix up for me.  I plan to plant tomato plants in three of them and butternut squash in the fourth one.  Can't wait!!!!!

I got another gardening book from our library!  So far I think it is a good one so I may be ordering one for my own library to refer to!  Happy Gardening everyone!!!

Footprints, Getting ready, Potatoes, Cabbages, Marigolds, Iris & Carrots

Do you see these little footprints??  Our two year old granddaughter thinks it is great fun to run through the garden right over the little lettuce seeds!  I hope the lettuce knows it should grow anyway!

I was able to play in the dirt this morning!  I am getting ready to plant my seed potatoes.  I brought out my tape measure and instructions!!!!

I planted the four cabbage plants and then two little rows of potatoes beside those.  I don't know if I cut my potatoes up correctly or if I planted them correctly.  I didn't have enough room for the space between the rows like the instructions said so I cheated a little.  Please, please, please potatoes grow anyway!!!!!  I also planted a few french marigold between the rows in the front to warn the bad bugs away! Annie, should I put my thyme clippings around the cabbage plants now or when should I do that???

I love the two tone color of these irises given to me by a friend.  They came from Virginia.  I think I need to divide them in the fall.

I guess you can tell that I love to garden!!  It started to rain but I put on my raincoat and my little furbaby friend and I are out there planting carrots in the carrot boxes in the spaces that didn't germinate from the last planting.  Grow carrots grow! Happy Gardening to you!

Progress in the Courtyard!

It was so nice to look out my bedroom window this morning and see the Clematis blooming instead of a pile of snow.  It is a rainy day agai...
