Asparagus, Healthy Cookies, Red in Strawberries, Cherry Tomato & Tomto Seedling

I don't usually weigh my produce that I harvest but I had 10 oz of asparagus this past week!!!  Also had spinach, lovage, chives, a few beet tops, turnip tops and two or three small radishes.  Does anyone freeze their asparagus?  If so, can you still saute it or how do you use your frozen asparagus?

I get hungry mid-morning and mid-afternoon so made up what I call my Healthy Cookies!  The recipe calls them Giant Breakfast Cookies.  They have oatmeal, wholewheat flour and honey in them plus a few other things.  I use less honey but add lots of chocolate chips!  They say dark chocolate is good for you so that is a great reason to add lots of chocolate chips don't you think!

I read that if you paint some stones red and put them among the strawberries that it helps keep the birds from eating your strawberries.  I didn't have any stones or red paint, and being the cheap person...oops...frugal person that I am, I had a couple half bricks and some red material so I used that.  Since I have the red netting on the blueberry bushes and now these and when I get the red netting on the dwarf sweet cherry tree I will be ready for Christmas!!!!

This is the cherry tomato plant I had bought.  Got it planted out yesterday and then we had severe thunderstorm and hail warnings last night.  We just had rain and thunder so I am thankful it escaped the hail!  More rain today.

This is that weak little Rutgers tomato plant I started from seed and posted a picture of awhile back.  It is persistant and is now this big!  Now what should I do???  Do I plant it in a larger pot indoors or harden it off and just plant it outdoors???? Thanks for your gardening help!

I hope the red bricks work. That would be great. You little Rutgers tomato plant has interesting leaves. It doesn't look like a tomato to me at all. Here is a link to Dave's Garden about Rutgers. I hope it helps. You could either pot it up into a bigger pot & go in and out with it to get it acclimated or get it outside in one of your planters and cover it at night to get it established until your night time temps are warm enough for it.

Hi Nancy! Your garden is so very well thought out! I love how you are planting in containers! What a great way to utilize your space! Rutgers tomatoes are some of the best tasting tomatoes! Hope yours does well! I don't like asparagus so I don't grow it. Wished I'd known about the red stones, cause something keeps eating my strawberries! I'll give that a try.
Here's a link to the ketchup recipe I use. I just don't use all those spices or jalepeno. I use white sugar and white vinegar too, and sometimes I use tomato sauce instead if tomato puree. http://www.thehungrymouse.com/2011/05/03/homemade-ketchup/ Hope this helps! Blessings from Bama!

mmmmI'm not sure that is a tomato plant; doesn't look like tomato leaves, but I could be wrong. Never heard of the red stone thingy you'll have to let us know if it works. I don't get enough asparagus to do anything but eat it right now...

I have froze asparagus in the past, and the only way you can heat it up is to bring it to a boil. You have to blanch it and then freeze it.

I have also canned pickled asparagus. I just picked some today and we are going to have roasted asparagus with our supper.

Have a wonderful evening.

Hi Cheryl, Thank you for your advice on the asparagus. I did blanch and freeze a couple little packages for me. Will see how I like it as I usually pick it and saute it in butter. Yum,yum! I don't like pickled things very much so probably won't try that. Do you like it that way? Hope you will come visit me again. Nancy

Funny! When I loaded the bookmark to you page yesterday this post was the first one that came up. I see today I missed a few. Glad you got it worked out. Eggplant. Now we're talkin'

Hi Emily, Glad you were able to read my postings and get caught up! I feel bad for my eggplant as it is looking sad. I didn't harden it off like I should have! I just covered it with a piece of cardboard to shade it for awhile. Poor thing! Come again! Nancy

Progress in the Courtyard!

It was so nice to look out my bedroom window this morning and see the Clematis blooming instead of a pile of snow.  It is a rainy day agai...
