Coco, Thermometer, Towels, Apple Donuts, Butterfly, Tomato plant & Cabbages

Here are my two wonderful gardeners hard at work!  One is painting and Coco is supervising.  She got into the paint and has white paint on her nose and whiskers!

It is not really a hundred here but the sun beats down on the deck.  It sure seems like a hundred degrees or hotter to me tho!!

My allergys have wiped me out today so I have to be an armchair gardener!  These are a couple of towels I have hanging in my kitchen.

It is a good thing that I have to stay in the house once in awhile!  These are apple donuts altho they look like muffins.  They are rolled in butter, cinnamon and sugar.  Not a calorie in them!  It is a recipe passed down from my Mom.

Look close at the pink flowers on the front plant.  Right close to the sheep's nose is a butterfly!  Can you see it????

A friend gave me this tomato plant this week that she had started from seed.  It is suppose to only get 12-18 inches high and have small tomatoes.  I hope I can get it transplanted to a larger pot without killing it!  If I am lucky I want to try to bring it into the house for the winter.

I put grass clippings around my four cabbages today.  I read that they like nitrogen so hope that was a good thing to do!!  I will cut more thyme clippings and lay around them also.

LOL, Coco is looking old before her time with those white whiskers!

It was in the high 90s here the other day, and I noticed one tomato plant was drooping a bit. I put the thermometer in the pot next to it, and it registered 109.7! I'd have drooped too! We're back down to more normal 70s again now.

Hi Annie, Our computer says it is 86 degrees here now. I would die in the high 90's or have to stay in the air conditioning! 70's sounds wonderful! This is too hot for here this time of year! Puts a damper on my gardening! Stay cool! Nancy

Help Annie! Me again. I have blanched and frozen a little asparagus but haven't tried it yet.
Could I just saute some and freeze it? Do you freeze yours? Thanks. Nancy

I've never tried freezing sauteed asparagus, only blanched. I would think that any heating method that stops the enzymes would be alright though. I'd try it if there wasn't a lot that might go to waste, but I wouldn't attempt to freeze a big bunch of it before I experimented with it a bit.

Your dog looks like I do after painting! Also, if you are going to tempt us with anything delicious, I think it's only fair to share the recipe in your blog as well. I already made your mom's cinnamon bun recipe and it was very good indeed so I'm ready for the next one. :-)

Your apple donuts look delicious! Feel like I can 'taste' them through the photo. Your Coco is adorable. So cute! And hope you are feeling better and your allergies are under control. Those sheep almost look real... like they're eating your flowers.

Beautiful flowers. I imagine it is very peaceful to sit and look at all the flowers and gardens that you have made.

Have a wonderful day.

I will be anxious to hear how your cabbages fared with the grass clippings on them. Please let us know. As for your garden, it is growing in leaps and bounds..wow...and Coco, with her adorable sweet face, looks to be the perfect companion.

Hi Gardeningbren, So far the cabbages look good. I also have laid thyme cuttings around them a couple of times and I haven't seen those white butterflies by them yet. I do love our little gardening buddy Coco even tho she eats every vegetable she can! I hope you will stop by again to visit! Nancy

Progress in the Courtyard!

It was so nice to look out my bedroom window this morning and see the Clematis blooming instead of a pile of snow.  It is a rainy day agai...
