Do you see these little footprints?? Our two year old granddaughter thinks it is great fun to run through the garden right over the little lettuce seeds! I hope the lettuce knows it should grow anyway!
I was able to play in the dirt this morning! I am getting ready to plant my seed potatoes. I brought out my tape measure and instructions!!!!
I planted the four cabbage plants and then two little rows of potatoes beside those. I don't know if I cut my potatoes up correctly or if I planted them correctly. I didn't have enough room for the space between the rows like the instructions said so I cheated a little. Please, please, please potatoes grow anyway!!!!! I also planted a few french marigold between the rows in the front to warn the bad bugs away! Annie, should I put my thyme clippings around the cabbage plants now or when should I do that???
I love the two tone color of these irises given to me by a friend. They came from Virginia. I think I need to divide them in the fall.
I guess you can tell that I love to garden!! It started to rain but I put on my raincoat and my little furbaby friend and I are out there planting carrots in the carrot boxes in the spaces that didn't germinate from the last planting. Grow carrots grow! Happy Gardening to you!
Nancy, I scatter the thyme clippings as soon as I see the little white cabbage moths fluttering about. It certainly won't hurt to do it now, it doesn't take a lot of them. I haven't done mine yet, and I've seen a couple of cabbage moths! I need to get on the ball.
Hi Annie, Thank you for responding so soon. If it is not raining I will have to get out there and put a little thyme around first ting. Thanks for your help. Maybe I will someday have a garden like yours! hahaha Nancy
I love those iris! Iris is one of my favorites. I started growing a few herbs. Thyme, oregano, two types of basil, and cilantro. I saw the last post about putting clippings in the garden. Can I use any of my herbs that way? I threw some basil and cilantro clippings I think in there the other day just as a guess. No idea what I'm doing. My carrots are growing well and I have little green sprouts on my tomato plants.
Hi Elizabeth, The blind leading the blind! haha I only know what Annie told me about the thyme clippings and also what I wrote in my notes that Geraniums repel white cabbage butterflies, nasturtians are good for cabbge and that mint, sage and rosemary are enemies of cabbage moths. Do you have the book or can you get it from your libary called "Carrots Love Tomatoes" by Louise Riotte. I look in there sometimes to see who likes what! lol Do you have a blog? Annie has a wonderful gardening blog! Thanks for visiting and come again. Nancy
My daughter lives up the street from me, and she has beautiful irises in her yard, with many, many blooms. I have one meager patch that comes up here -- but they don't bloom. They probably need more sun, and I will get around to moving them one of these days.
It seems to me that you're doing a fine job with your garden! I had dreams of having a vegetable garden -- something my parents always had -- but I haven't made it a priority. This year I have green beans up, and that's all.
Hi, Nancy I am just droping by after reading the comment you put on my blog. Your flowers and garden look better than mine right now. have a great day.
Hi Marnita, You have much more to take care of with your animals and children and all you do! Thanks for stopping by and please come again. Nancy
Hi Dianefaith, I have a blackberry bush planted too close to those irises so will have to do something about that! Good luck with your green beans! That is a start and you have your beautiful flowers and yard to enjoy! Thanks for visiting and please come again! Nancy
I am a huge fan of carrots in containers! Please keep us updated on how the boxes turn out. Also, I think your lettuce will be just fine...my 3 year old AND 2 year old both trampled through my lettuce bed and it doesn't seem any worse for wear!
Hi Niki, Thanks for your encouragment about the lettuce! Gotta love those little ones, huh! Thanks for visiting and please come again. Nancy
I need to get my lettuce planted today. Our potatoes are up, but that is about it so far.
Have a wonderful day.
I'm impressed with your potatoes. I didn't get any in -- don't like them enough, I bet.
Sounds like you're really going gangbusters this spring. Thanks for stopping by my blog.
Hi Stefaneener, I am happy to have you visit me! I only planted two short rows of potatoes. If they do well for me I may try to find a spot to do more next year! I like looking at your gardens. Come again! Nancy
Hi Cheryl, I am glad you came to visit me! I only planted a couple little rows of potatoes and hoping they will grow. I had some lettuce left from last year in the cold frame but it has not done well but I have also planted some more new so impatiently waiting! Come again! Nancy
Hi Nancy! Your garden is lovely and coming along so well. You can tell how much you enjoy 'playing in the dirt'! and what a faithful furbaby friend to keep you company in the rain! She's adorable. Your irises are beautiful.
Hi Lisa, Happy to have you visit again. My furbaby is sometimes a pain when she climbs over the fence and eats my veggies or walks on my newly planted seeds! She is my buddy tho. Come again! Nancy
Your cocker is adorable. Does she really pull carrots out of the soil to eat. Mine loves most anything from the garden, especially the pole beans..favourite treat and keeps him trim.
Hi Bren, Yes, our Cocker will eat almost any veggie. She also was eating grapes off the grape vine till I discovered that. She picks the raspberries on the bottom of the bushes and we pick the top. She ate the hostas to the ground so had to get rid of those. After her dog food I zap a few frozen green beans or pieces of frozen squash in the micro and give to her. She looks forward to them! Thanks for visiting! Nancy
