My Wonderful Gardener has been picking raspberrys from our little patch. This is today's harvest. We love our raspberrys, and I am trying to figure out where I can put another patch!
My onions need to grow a little more. I am out of boughten onions now and will use this one from my garden that I pulled out yesterday!!
I was not successful at growing cabbage! See how the cabbage butterflies shredded it? I can't be bothered dusting it with powders and my natural remedys didn't work. I put thyme around them, and it didn't help. I put netting over them but didn't quite cover to the bottom all the way around so they were able to get underneath. I won't grow them next year because I feel my space that I can grow things in can be put to better use. The next picture shows what I savaged from one of them!
This is what was left after I took off the butterfly shredded leaves!!! It will be made into cole slaw.
The pea pods were pulled out and brought into the house. I sat on a chair and cut them up so they would decompose in my compost spot faster!!! Does anyone else ever do that? lol
This redish colored flower is what I call Bee Balm or Monarda. Am I correct about that? The color does not seem to show up well where I have it.
I finished knitting another dish cloth. I think the yellow will look really cheery and look like sunshine!
Our daughter, Sue and her husband, Craig brought us a picnic supper last night! Sloppy Joes, Corn on the cob, Baked beans, Potato salad, Chips and dip and Watermelon. Yum, yum, yum!!!!! After eating we played a game of Scrabble. Our brains had not worked so hard in years!! Girls against the guys and the guys won. We had fun!

Great looking harvest. Our raspberries are just starting to ripen for their first small picking. Most of them come later in the summer and fall. We always struggle with cabbage in our garden as well, dang cabbage butterflies!!

That's too bad about the cabbages. I just cut two more of mine today, and they were just perfect. I don't know if it was the thyme clippings or just luck, but I didn't have any damage on mine. Aren't the raspberries good? I wish I had room for another row, my 8' bed just doesn't give me as many as I could use.
You managed to salvage a good head of cabbage from the cabbage worm infestation. Those raspberries look absolutely delicious. Your picnic meal and scrabble game evening sounds like it was a lot of fun. Simple pleasures are always most rewarding.
You clip trimmings for the compost too????? I always need compost and the faster can make it the better! Love the Raspberries, yum.
You might try cabbage again with a light weight row cover sealed all the way around the bed. Your flower garden is really pretty; that looks like the Bee Balm I bought from Bonnies plants, perennial, comes in different colors, mine are pink, lavender and mauve

The harvest all looks good. Even the raspberries. We have to pick our's again tomorrow.
I haven't had good luck with cabbage either. I did plant some but haven't checked them in a week or so. I need to get back out to the garden.

Everything looks so yummy! I don't chop for the compost, but I do cut up kitchen scraps for the chickens. :)

Looks like Monarda/ Bee Balm to me. Mine is dark magenta, too. Mine has slowly moved to a sunnier location on its own. Also the soil it's in isn't great, so it struggles. I just haven't taken the time to move it.

I am always amazed at your raspberries. Remember the raspberries I grew at my first house. They took over and grew up into our grass. A couple years ago we planted the blackberries and we are still regretting that decision. I wish I could figure out a good way to grow them without them taking over everything.
I have never been able to do cabbage. I had the same problems you did. I have planted Brussels sprouts for the passed two years and have the same issues with the. I love Brussels sprouts so I put up with it.

Hi Joelle, Raspberrys seem to be one thing we can grow! They do spread tho and you have to keep at them. You are smart in planning ahead. I seem to add on piecemeal and move things! I don't know if we bought the wrong kind or what but we have not had good luck with the weed fabric. The weeds grow anyway. I added your blog to my side list of some of my favorite blogs. I looked up your question about flowering oregano. From what I have read, it is best to use the oregano right when it first starts to flower. They say it is best. If you cut the flowers when they start to appear you will lose the best flavor of the herb. They say that once it flowers it is not as good and it stops growing. When fall comes around you should cut it down to the grown to produce new growth next spring.
