Another Setback!! 8/22/19

Isn't this just the prettiest little bouquet!  The pot says Bee Well Soon.  I had a toothache start Friday.  By Monday my chin and jaw were badly swollen.  Had it fixed but by the third day I was red down into my chest with blood infection so was admitted to the hospital for five days on an IV and home on oral antibiotic for 10 days. Many prayers were sent up on my behalf.

Sue also brought me a half dozen beautiful pink roses after I was home.  She knows I love PINK!

Got my gluten free sourdough starter out of the refrigerator and started feeding it again and made up sourdough pancakes for a month and froze and the last batch of gf sourdough muffins will come out of the oven soon.  Then back into the refrigerator the gf sourdough starter will go for another month!

Not the best looking cucumbers but I wondered at one point if I would get any.  So far no zucchini and I doubt I will.  I thought zucchini was suppose to be easy to grow!

I am not too impressed with growing Amaranth so will probably plant fewer next year.  As you can guess not much accomplished around my little homestead lately!  Thank you for visiting and please come back again!  Nancy

So sorry to read of your recent setback Nancy. That posy of flowers is just so sweet as are the pink roses. I have never been that fussed about Amaranth to be honest. The rest of your raised garden is looking wonderful.

That must have been very unpleasant for you, and a bit of a shock too. Glad you are back home now.
I love pink roses too, so many of mine are varying shades of pink.

Hi Julie, Thank you. I read that Amaranth leaves tasted like spinach but I didn't find them real tasty. Hoping to get my gardens under control after them being neglected while sick. Nancy

Hi Elizabethd, It must be so nice to be able to grow all your roses. So far I have not had a whole lot of luck growing roses in this courtyard. Thank you for commenting. Nancy

Nancy, I'm so sorry to hear about your infection and hospitalization. That must have been quite scary for you. I will be praying for a complete recovery for you. I can't believe you're already up and making big batches of pancakes and muffins. Your cucumbers look fine to me. Some of the most misshapen ones tastet the best!
Take care of yourself my friend.
Blessings,
Betsy

Dear Betsy, I knew that Bob was worried but I did not realize how serious I was. I am glad though as that way I wasn't worrying about getting better! Big batches of pancakes and muffins is misleading ! LOL I made two batches of pancakes and two of muffins. Bob helps me if I am too tired and need help. Thank your for commenting! Hope you are doing better. Nancy

I'm so sorry to hear about your infection! I'm glad that you are on the mend and am sending you lots of love & prayers that you make a complete recovery. P.S. I've never had much luck with zucchini either - the only type of summer squash that seems to do well for me in tromboncino.

How scary on the infection. My goodness. Hope you are on the road to complete recovery and healing.

I usually grow zucchini, but this year didn't get any. It was just a weird year.
Blessings.

Hi Connie, Hoping for no more health problems from now on! Thanks for your continued prayers! Nancy

Hi Margaret, I have never tried to grow tromboncino squash! I am wondering if I have enough room in my little courtyard for that. Thank you for your prayers! Nancy

Hi Cheryl, I wonder if others have had a problem growing zucchini this year. I thought maybe it was poor pollination. Hoping I am on the road to recovery now. Nancy

Nancy, oh no! You've really had a time of it this summer haven't you?! Even so, your garden looks good. The important thing is taking care of yourself and getting well.

Hi Leigh, I think I have had enough of the bad situations so am ready to get healthy! Thanks for commenting. Nancy

How scary to find that the infection had spread so quickly. I'm happy to hear that with lots of antibiotics the infection was dealt with. Right now my DH has a red and swollen arm after getting a minor scrape a week ago. I think germs must be getting stronger while we, as we get older, get less able to fight them off. Take care of yourself!!

PS I can't grow zucchini either).

Nancy I sure hope you are feeling better. A toothache is bad enough, but then to get the infection too, that would be awful. I've sure had my share of tooth aches and infections. The flowers you got are so pretty, and those are the most beautiful pink roses. I love pink too.

Thank you for visiting my blog. Oh, I've had the best luck rooting knockout roses. Any time I trim back my rose bushes I stick several cuttings in pots to root. I try to use pieces where two stems join. Trim off any blooms and most of the leaves, then stick the cutting in potting soil and pack the soil around it good and keep it watered. I usually sit my cuttings near the outside faucet where it's easy to keep them moist.

Late spring and early summer are the best times to root cuttings. Cuttings seem to root easier if they are placed in water for a half-hour or so before sticking them in the soil. Cuttings six to ten inches seem to root better.

I've had pretty good luck rooting things...and it is just luck. :) I am certainly no expert. Take care and I hope you feel good and have no more set-backs. Love, Henny

Hi Granny Marigold, Keep an eye on your hubby's arm. Blood infections are not to be taken lightly. I hope it gets well soon. Thanks for commenting. Nancy

Hi Henny Penny, Blood infections are scary and I am thankful they were able to take care of it. Thank you for all the info to start a rose bush. I stuck a couple raspberry plants dug up in 5 gallon buckets but they look terrible so doubtful they will live. Will have to try the rose bush directions next spring. Nancy

Hi Rain, Thank you. And thank you for leaving a comment. Nancy

Hi Sheryl, It is nice to meet you. Thank you for leaving a comment. With breaking my arm and then in hospital with sepsis and having chronic fatigue I have not tried to make bread lately. I have to eat gluten free now and when I tried that with gluten free sourdough bread it was a flop! I have lots of things I would like to do but with coping with all my problems I have not accomplished a whole lot! I hope you will visit again. Nancy

Dear Nancy, An infection like that is just awful. And frightening. And painful! I am glad you are gluten free. Of all things I have ever tired this has helped me most with pain. I had pain all my life and no wheat means no pain for me. So it must not agree with me at all. I hope you feel much better soon. With love Annabel.xxx

Hi Annabel, From what I read it will take time to get my energy back plus having the chronic fatigue syndrome besides that and breaking my arm this year. I don't feel any different than when i didn't eat gluten free except I break out in an itchy rash or spots or get a few stomach cramps. I know I have to stick to the gluten free diet! Thank you so much for taking the time to visit. I love reading about your days! Nancy

Progress in the Courtyard!

It was so nice to look out my bedroom window this morning and see the Clematis blooming instead of a pile of snow.  It is a rainy day agai...
