I started this celery from the end of a celery stalk I bought from the store. I have another one started also and plan to move them out to the garden when it is warm enough.

10 of my 11 milk jugs sprouted so I moved them into the cold frame for these below 32 degree nights.

We made up another batch of freezer cole slaw.
And guess what this will be??

Winter seems reluctant to leave.
I have to remember to do that with my celery next time. My rabbit likes celery a lot.
I can't imagine what you're going to make with that pretty pink patterned fabric. Hopefully you'll post about it.
Hi Granny Marigold, I have had good luck doing that with my celery but I also tried to do it with the ends of Romaine lettuce but the don't grow very tall for me. When I get the project done I will share it. Thanks for stopping by!......Nancy

He Betsy, Thank you for commenting. We are having lots of rain now but thankfully it is not snow! Your guess might be right. Guess we will have to wait and see!
Your celery stalk is growing so pretty. I want to to try growing another. That Rosie is so adorable.

Ho Julie, I am hopeful that I will be able to get the celery planted out in the garden successfully. I hope tonight will be the last night of below 32 degree weather. I need to get busy at finishing that project!....Nancy
I'm so impressed that almost all of your milk jugs have sprouted! I tried winter sowing last year and didn't have the best of luck - am trying with only a few containers again this year...hopefully it works out better. And that idea of putting them in a cold frame on cold nights - genius! Now I just have to build myself one :)

Hi Margaret, I haven't tried starting tomatoes or peppers in milk jugs bit have done greens and flowers. They say you can put the caps on for overnight if really cold but it is easier to set them in the cold frame. I think it only keeps things a couple degrees warmer. Mine are on raised legs so probably colder. If it is 28 or so I put another row cover over the jugs inside the cold frame......Nancy
