April 13, 2022 So much to do!

So much to do, so little energy, rain today and high winds forecast for tomorrow!  But us gardener's plod on!  Most all of my new strawberries I planted last fall lived through the winter. Need to put some compost around them.  Have 10 more plants coming this month.

We were able to make a trip and get five pails of free compost.  Free is good!

A trip to the garden center yielded 8 little cabbages.  Four green and four red.  I have never grown red before.  I would have liked to have bought larger plants but these fit my budget better!

I chitted my potatoes and hope to plant them in the next few days.  I don't quite know what I am doing when planting potatoes.  Tried a few last year.  I will put four in one grow bag and four in the other grow bag and I am going to try one in the Greenstalk as have seen videos where they do it.

Oh, oh!  I washed my tennis shoes but forgot to take the orthotic inserts out.  Thankfully they ended up being okay as they are not cheap to replace.

I put egg shells around my blueberry plants.  Rosie thought they were good to eat!  She is getting her calcium!

Rosie got a new toy from the Dollar Tree today.  A squirrel.  She has torn the stuffing out of a couple of the other ones but really likes her squirrel.  I wonder how long it will last!  Happy Gardening!............Nancy

It's great that you still have the space (greatly reduced, of course) and also the energy ( also reduced I fear) to garden. You're so right, we gardeners plod on. I'd like to try growing strawberries. I think I'll use a raised box too. I still have to wait for a while though. Pretty cold at nights still.

Hi Granny Marigold, Raised beds are sure nice. I hope you can get one. My new strawberries I ordered should come middle of April or end of April. I love having a few to pick! Nancy

It all looks wonderful Nancy & looks to be growing well. I love your new Header photo - what a great courtyard. I have been away to Mums again so I am trying to catch up on all my favourite blogs. Have a lovely Easter Nancy. xx

Hi Julie, Thank you but my path no longer looks that pretty. Rosie pulled most of the plants out last year. . I am going to try to plant in pots along there this year and hope she leaves them alone. Life with a puppy! You have a lovely Easter also! Nancy

Hello Nancy:
I'm sorry I'm late in commenting. I was able to read blogs while camping but not enough internet to comment until we got home to the computer.
I would love to have some raised beds so I can do some gardening. Just a few things, but we have to get them off the ground and covered because of the deer that like to eat whatever is growing in our yard. Last year they ate every single flower that bloomed except marigolds! This year I'm putting silk flowers in pots in the backyard!
Wishing you a most wonderful Easter tomorrow.
Blessings and hugs,
Betsy

Hi Nancy, I love reading about your garden, you do so much with your small garden area, I am very impressed. Don't worry those little cabbage will takeoff and grow like crazy. I started some cabbage plants from seed, and had them in the green house. I can't figure out what went wrong, but I lost power out there plus we have been having a cold spell, I've lost a couple plants and the others don't look very good. I just can't get the enthusiasm about anything the way I used to. It is always a delight visiting your blog. Wish we lived closer . . . I'd drop by for some gardening tips and maybe some of your lovely green thumb would rub off on me :)

Hi Connie, Thank you for your encouragement. I too would love it if you were my neighbor although this year I think I have a brown thumb! I am sorry the cold spell did damage to your plants. I can understand your lack of enthusiasm this year but hope it will be a place of healing for you. Nancy

Progress in the Courtyard!

It was so nice to look out my bedroom window this morning and see the Clematis blooming instead of a pile of snow.  It is a rainy day agai...
